Polyester Buttons

Buttons are almost as ancient as clothing. Information exists that buttons from the Bronze Age are found in India during excavations and in Turkey buttons are found dating back to 10,000 years B.C. Their history is more than rich. During the millennia they revived for use at times and at times were forgotten. They were characteristic of the clothes of the rich and noble circles and inaccessible to ordinary people. Any kinds of materials were used, from wood and stone to precious metals and diamonds. In 18 – 19 century their decorative value reached unexpected heights, and after the World War II showed up their utility function – then they were used completely as intended – for fastening.

Possibilities at the production of polyester buttons

Different types of buttons are produced, depending on the form of the material used. Buttons can be bar-like when the polyester is in the shape of a rod. For the flat buttons the raw material is pre-processed in the form of a sheet. This is important for the dye process – usually the flat buttons are of single colour and the bar-like ones are subject to shading and dyeing. The transparent or translucent models are also among the bestsellers. Depending on the desired effect, different chemicals are added to the raw material. This is how nacreous shine, snow whiteness or metallic appearance is achieved.

Polyester buttons can imitate almost any material – even completely natural ones, such as horn. And this could be done with such quality that it will be difficult for a non-professional to recognize the imitation.

These are the most widely used buttons worldwide

The preference to polyester buttons and to all other materials is in proportion approximately 10:1. This is easily understandable in view of their exclusively low price. They tolerate well all known methods and procedures for decoration and embellishment. Also, inscriptions and logos can be added according to the client’s requirements. The additional inner colouring makes them even more effective and attractive to the consumers. Another very important advantage is that almost every one of the desired properties can be controlled during the production process – starting from density, which is controlled during the casting of the polyester, to the number and width of, and the spacing between the holes, as well as the shading, brightness, and lustre. In this respect the buttons come in 4 variants – bright, semi-bright, mat, and mat-bright.

Another huge advantage of the polyester buttons

They are appropriate for any type of clothing and fabrics. They are produced in sizes ranging from 12 to 72. Depending of the decoration purpose they can be used for male clothes and even for the most elegant women’s dresses if one choses some of the delicate and fine models. We certainly can offer appropriate models for coats and rough manual knitwear, as well as for silk and muslin. You just have to decide what you need.

The invasion of the artificial materials

This has happened in the 40s – 50s of twentieth century, when after the World War II science and technology had an unprecedented advancement and plastics, produced from petroleum products, entered on a mass scale in everyday life. Buttons have become cheap, readily available, and diverse in form, colour, holes, and dimensions.

They were made by casting, pressing, stamping, and behaved well at further processing and colouring. It became possible huge quantities of practically identically looking buttons to be produced at the same time. This really reduced the consumer prices to an unexpected level, but also led to depersonalization of the buttons. Almost the entire quantity of buttons used was of plastic.

The first polyester buttons appear shortly after the discovery of the polymers containing activated ester functional group. These buttons quickly removed the plastic ones from the top positions of consumer preferences. The new material allowed even more fascinating buttons to be produced that are also more durable.
