Coloured snap buttons are made in three ways: with a painted metal ring, with a coloured cap – plastic, mother-of-pearl effect, marble or crystal – and with a coloured finish on the metal parts. In the Polkom catalogue these are, for example, PR-70 with a coloured ring, the plastic caps S54-40, H61-50 and H61-55, and the pearl PR-40. The cap of a snap button can be made in any size and colour, and the colour is matched to a sample or Pantone on inquiry.
Coloured snap buttons: three ways to add colour
- Painted metal – the colour is on the metal part itself, as with the coloured ring PR-70.
- Coloured cap – the plastic, pearl, marble or crystal is cast in the chosen colour.
- Coloured finish – the metal parts receive a tone from the finish chart: black nickel look, gold, gunmetal and others – all nickel free.
The three ways can be combined – for example a coloured plastic cap on metal parts in black nickel look (nickel free).

Coloured ring PR-70
PR-70 is a prong snap with a coloured ring of painted brass. It comes in fashion colours with a matt, textile look that sits naturally next to jersey. Sizes are 11.5 – 30 mm on inquiry. The model is intended for baby and children's clothing, jersey, sportswear and shirts, and it accepts a logo.
The colour of the ring is always perceived together with the colour of the fabric around it. So when choosing, look at the button placed on the fabric, not on its own in the colour chart.
Plastic caps in the colour of the fabric
Plastic caps are the easiest way to have the button exactly in the tone of the jacket or trench coat. For S54-40 in the 54 system and H61-50 in the 61 system, the cap is made in a custom colour, with white and black as standard. Both models come in sizes 14, 15, 17, 18 and 20 mm and are intended for jackets, denim jackets, trench coats and coats. They have no logo.
If you want both colour and a logo, choose H61-55 – mini 61 with a plastic cap, on which the logo is printed. Sizes range from 11.5 to 30 mm. All plastic caps in the catalogue are phthalate- and PVC-free.
Pearl, marble and crystal in colour
Decorative caps are also cast in colour. The pearl of PR-40 is cast in a colour of your choice, the marble PR-50 has an effect and colour of your choice, and with the crystal PR-60 with a decorative stone the casting colour is also your choice. These caps give a depth that a flat colour lacks – suitable for shirts, bodysuits and childrenswear with a more pronounced detail.
Matt or gloss
The choice between a matt and a gloss surface changes the perception of colour as much as the tone itself:
- matt – calmer, closer to the look of the fabric, hides scratches and signs of use; typical of the coloured ring PR-70;
- gloss – brighter and more saturated, reflects light and catches the eye; suitable when the button is an accent;
- pearl – a pearly sheen that changes with the angle of the light.
The possible surface versions for a specific model are confirmed on inquiry and checked on a sample.
How to specify a colour
To get the exact colour, send one of the following references:
- a sample of the fabric the button must match;
- a Pantone code – on inquiry;
- a sample of an existing button or accessory.
Bear in mind that plastic, pearl, painted metal and fabric take colour differently. The same tone can look different in daylight and artificial light. So compare the sample with the fabric in daylight and approve the colour on a sample, not just by code.
Metal finish as colour
When the cap is metal, the colour comes from the finish. The finish chart includes:
- nickel look (nickel free)
- black nickel look (nickel free)
- antique brass
- tin oxide
- gold
- gunmetal
- unplated (raw)
The standard finishes in stock are nickel look, antique brass and tin oxide; the others are made to order. All are nickel free, so even the dark black nickel look suits garments that touch the skin. Choose one tone for all the metal accessories on the product – snap buttons, eyelets and metal buttons.
Colour and logo
A coloured button and a logo are not mutually exclusive. PR-70 accepts a logo, H61-55 a logo printed on the plastic cap, the pearl PR-40 a logo by laser or print under a clear cap, and the marble PR-50 by laser.
