Wholesale zips for garment production

A zip is a small detail, yet it decides whether a garment is enjoyed for years or comes back as a complaint. That is why, when buying zips wholesale, it is not only price and colour that matter but also the tooth type, size, slider style and how the zip is sewn in. Polkom is a Bulgarian company based in Sofia with more than two decades of experience in garment accessories. We supply zippers to fashion brands, clothing manufacturers, ateliers and traders across Europe – from single samples for a new collection to full production runs.

Every zip consists of two textile tapes, a row of teeth (the chain) along their edges, a slider with a puller, and stops at the ends. The combination of these elements determines strength, flexibility and appearance. That is why our range is built around four main zip groups, each with a clear purpose.

Types of zips in our range

Metal zips

Metal zips have teeth made of brass, aluminium or nickel-plated alloy. They are the classic choice for jeans, jackets, leather goods and bags – strong, with a distinctive sound and look. Finishes include nickel, gold, antique brass, bronze and black nickel.

Nylon coil zips

Nylon coil zips feature a continuous nylon spiral stitched to the tape. Light and flexible, they follow the curves of the pattern and are the most versatile choice for dresses, trousers, sweatshirts, pouches and home textiles.

Moulded plastic zips

Moulded plastic zips have individual plastic teeth injection-moulded directly onto the tape, most often from polyacetal (POM). They do not rust and withstand moisture and cold, which is why they are preferred for sports jackets, outerwear, backpacks and workwear.

Invisible zips

Invisible (concealed) zips are coil zips with a reversed chain: once sewn in, only the small slider puller shows on the outside. They are used in dresses, skirts, formalwear and cushion covers.

Sizes, lengths and constructions

Zip size is indicated by a number that roughly corresponds to the width of the closed chain in millimetres. The most common sizes in apparel are:

  • No. 3 – fine garments, dresses, pockets, light skirts;
  • No. 5 – the all-round size for trousers, jeans, jackets and bags;
  • No. 8 and No. 10 – heavy jackets, coats, backpacks, luggage and outdoor gear.

By the way they open, zips are closed-end (joined at the bottom – for trousers, pockets, skirts), open-end/separating (for jackets and sweatshirts that open fully) and two-way (with two sliders – for long jackets, parkas and sleeping bags). As well as ready-made zips in fixed lengths, many models can also be ordered in custom lengths.

Colours, finishes and sliders

Tapes are dyed in a wide palette and can be matched to a fabric swatch or a Pantone reference. With metal zips you also choose the tooth finish, and with moulded zips whether the teeth match the tape or contrast with it. Sliders matter too: auto-lock (self-locking) sliders for trousers, non-locking sliders for cushions and bags, double-sided sliders for reversible garments, plus decorative pullers.

Custom zips with your logo

For brands that want a recognisable detail, we offer sliders and pullers with a logo, custom shapes and colour combinations tailored to the collection. The zip can become part of the product's visual identity – especially on jackets, bags and sportswear. Our services also include sample making, logo engraving, attaching zips and accessories, and advice on choosing the right type.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right zip size?
The size depends on the fabric and the load. For fine dresses and pockets No. 3 is usually enough; for trousers, jeans and most jackets No. 5; and for heavy outerwear, backpacks and luggage No. 8 or No. 10. If you are not sure, send us a description of the garment or a fabric swatch and we will recommend a suitable type.
Can I order zips in the colour of my fabric?
Yes. Zip tapes come in a wide palette and we can match the closest shade to a physical fabric swatch or a Pantone number. For larger quantities, dyeing to a special shade is also possible. We recommend a sample before the production run so you can approve the colour in person.
What is the minimum order quantity for zips?
Minimum quantities depend on the article – they differ for zips from stock and for custom production with a logo or non-standard colour. Send an enquiry with the type, size and length you need and you will receive a specific quote for your case.
Do you deliver zips outside Bulgaria?
Yes, Polkom delivers zips and garment accessories to customers across the European Union – brands, factories, ateliers and traders. The shipping method and timing are agreed when the order is confirmed, based on quantity, parcel weight and destination, and we can combine zips with other accessories in one shipment if needed.
