Polyester perfume caps can be made in any Pantone colour – solid, mixed or with a marble effect – matte or glossy. The colour is dyed into the mass of the polyester, so it stays uniform and does not rub off. This way the cap becomes the first signal of the fragrance’s character: the customer “senses” whether it is fresh, floral, woody or oriental before even smelling the perfume.
Why the cap colour matters
A fragrance is invisible, and choices on the shelf are made with the eyes. That is why brands translate scent into the language of colour and shape. The bottle is often clear or in the colour of the liquid, and the cap is where the designer can place the strongest colour accent. The same shape in different colours creates completely different expectations: a warm amber suggests cosiness and depth, an icy blue freshness and purity.
With polyester perfume caps there is no limit to the palette, so the colour can be chosen exactly according to the story of the fragrance rather than according to what is available.
Pantone: the brand’s exact colour
Pantone is an international colour identification system with which a brand can specify its colour unambiguously. You give the code and we dye the polyester in that shade. A few practical tips:
- send the code, not just a photo – screens display colours differently;
- bear in mind that colour in the mass of polyester looks slightly different from colour printed on paper – that is why a physical sample is approved;
- check the sample next to the bottle, the liquid and the box, not on its own;
- if the line has several fragrances, approve all the colours together so that they read as one family.
Effects that polyester allows
Solid single colour
The classic choice – a clean, saturated colour in any Pantone shade, from white and black to pastels and neon tones. It suits minimalist bottles and brands with a clearly recognisable corporate colour.
Mixed and blended colours
Two or more colours that flow into one another. The effect recalls the development of the fragrance – from the fresh top notes to the warmer base – and gives movement even to a simple shape.
Marble effect
Veins and patches of one or more colours on a base colour. Every marble-effect cap has its own pattern, so two caps are never completely identical. This is an advantage for brands that value the artisanal, unique character of the product. The marble can be delicate – white with beige or grey – or dramatic, for example black with gold veins.
Horn and tortoiseshell effect
Warm brown, honey and amber shades with a natural pattern. They work especially well with woody, leather and tobacco fragrances.
Clear and translucent
Clear or smoked polyester lets light through and creates lightness. It can be combined with a colour or an effect to make the cap look like crystal or glass.
Matte or gloss
The surface changes how the same colour is perceived. Gloss emphasises depth and saturation and adds a shine reminiscent of lacquer or a gemstone. Matte softens the colour, gives a modern, velvety look and reflects less light. Marble in gloss looks like polished stone, and in matte like a natural, unworked material.
Colour and fragrance families
There are no mandatory rules, but some associations are widely used in perfumery. The table is a starting point for discussion, not a recipe:
| Fragrance family | Colours and effects that often work |
|---|---|
| Citrus and fresh | Lemon yellow, light green, clear and translucent shades, gloss |
| Aquatic and marine | Blue, turquoise, smoked clear, a blend from blue to white |
| Floral | Pastel pink, peach, lilac, white marble with pink veins |
| Woody | Horn effect, dark green, brown, matte surface |
| Oriental and amber | Burgundy, amber, black, black marble with gold veins |
| Gourmand and sweet | Caramel, cream, chocolate brown, soft matte |
One shape, many fragrances
Polyester is especially convenient for brands with several fragrances in one line. The cap shape stays the same, and each fragrance gets its own Pantone colour or marble variant. This way the shelf looks orderly and recognisable, and the customer easily tells the fragrances apart. The same approach also works for cosmetics – a cream, lotion and perfume from one line can have caps in one colour and different sizes.
Polyester with a metal accent
If you want both colour and a jewellery-like detail, a polyester cap can be combined with a metal ring or a logo plate. Add a metal perfume label to the bottle in the same metal colour and the look will be complete. The metal colours for these details are on the Colours and finishes page, and all Polkom metal products are nickel free.
Logo on a polyester cap
The logo can be moulded in relief or recessed into the cap, engraved, printed or colour-filled. Send it in vector format so that we can assess the details against the size of the cap. On marble-effect caps the logo is usually placed on the top in a contrasting colour or as a metal detail, so that it stays legible over the pattern.
How colour approval works
- You send the Pantone code, the desired effect and surface, a photo or sample of the bottle and the logo.
- We suggest a shape and, for marble or blends, variants of the ratio between the colours.
- We make a sample, which you assess next to the bottle, the liquid and the box.
- If needed, we adjust the shade, the contrast of the veins or the degree of gloss.
- The approved sample becomes the reference for the production run and for future orders.
If the line has several fragrances, it is most convenient to sample all the colours together. This way you will see straight away whether the caps sit harmoniously next to each other on the shelf and whether any shade “stands out” more than the others.
