An enameled metal buckle turns the belt from a functional detail into a highlight of the garment. The round frame with coloured enamel is visible from a distance, and the metal rim around the colour gives it a finished, jewellery-like look. Polkom is a manufacturer of metal buckles and makes round prong buckles with coloured enamel – pink, purple, green, dark green, blue and turquoise – on gold, nickel colour (nickel free) and gunmetal. The enamel can be in any Pantone colour and the buckle in any size.
What a round enamel buckle looks like
The buckle is a round metal frame with a cross bar and a prong. The front of the frame is filled with coloured enamel, while the thin metal edges on both sides remain exposed. The prong passes through the holes in the belt and holds it at the desired length – the classic principle we describe in the article parts of a buckle.
On some models the enamel does not go all the way round the frame but leaves an exposed metal section. This asymmetry makes the buckle more modern and highlights the colour of the metal.

Enamel colours and metal colours
The gallery shows buckles with pink, purple, green, dark green, blue and turquoise enamel. They are only examples: the enamel can be made in any Pantone colour so that the buckle matches the belt fabric, the dress or the brand colour.
| Metal | Effect | Suitable enamel colours |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | warm, luxurious look | purple, blue, turquoise, dark green |
| Nickel colour (nickel free) | clean, contemporary look | pink, green, turquoise, pastel tones |
| Gunmetal | dark, graphic contrast | pink, saturated and light colours |
All Polkom metal buckles are nickel free – "nickel" refers only to the silver colour of the finish. You can read more about the dark graphite tone in the article what gunmetal colour is.

Tone on tone or contrast
There are two main approaches. With tone on tone, the enamel repeats the colour of the belt or garment – a green buckle on a green belt, a purple one on a purple dress. The buckle then looks refined and stands out mainly through its metal rim. With contrast, the enamel is a different colour – for example turquoise on a beige coat or pink on a navy belt – and the buckle becomes the brightest detail of the silhouette. Contrast works well on plain styles, tone on tone on garments with a print or many details. When you check the sample, look at the buckle both close up and from a few metres away, because the enamel colour is perceived differently at a distance.
How colour matching works
- You send the Pantone code of the enamel, the metal colour and the size of the buckle.
- We make a sample in the required colour.
- You compare the sample with the belt fabric and the Pantone card in daylight.
- After approval the series is produced to the sample, which remains the reference.
Sizes of enamel buckles
Round enamel buckles are made in any size. The size is determined by the width of the belt that passes through the buckle and by the look you want – a small buckle for a thin dress belt or a large statement buckle for a coat. How to measure the inner opening and which width suits which belt is explained in the article belt buckle sizes.

Which belts and garments they suit
- Dress belts – a thin leather or fabric belt with a small round buckle in the colour of the pattern.
- Coats and trench coats – a larger buckle on the coat belt that becomes the main detail. See also the article buckles for coat belts.
- Women's belts – leather and faux leather, in a colour that repeats the enamel.
- Fabric belts – belts made from the garment fabric; more about them in buckles for fabric belts.
- Childrenswear – cheerful enamel colours that are visible from afar.
If you are unsure which mechanism to choose for a particular belt, you will find a comparison of all types in the article types of buckles.

Buckle and buttons in one enamel colour
The strongest effect comes when the buckle and the buttons of the garment share the same enamel and metal. A coat with pink enamel buttons on gold and a belt with a pink enamel buckle on gold look like one set designed especially for the style. What metal shank buttons with coloured enamel look like and how their colour is chosen is explained in the article enamel buttons.
When the collection also has metal logo plates, the enamel can repeat the same colour there too – the types of enamel are compared in the article enamel metal logo plates.
Enamel buckle to your design
Besides the round shape we can also make an enamel buckle to your design – with a different shape, with a logo or monogram in enamel. How the process runs from idea to series is described in the article custom-made buckles, and for buckles with the brand mark – metal buckles with logo.

Attachment and care
An enamel buckle is attached to the belt like any prong buckle: the end of the belt is wrapped around the bar, the prong passes through a hole and the end is fixed with stitching, rivets or a screw. The steps are described in the article how to attach a buckle to a belt. To protect the enamel, keep the buckle away from knocks against hard surfaces and clean it with a soft dry cloth, without abrasive products.
