Real horn buttons are a natural material – every button has its own pattern, and the tone ranges from deep black to honey, brown and almost beige. That is why the most useful tool when choosing horn buttons is the colour card: it shows real buttons, not a photo of a single sample. Polkom is a manufacturer of real horn buttons, and in this article we show you our colour cards with the model codes (PHB) and colour codes (COL), so you can request a sample or a quote directly by code.
All models on the cards are made of 100% natural horn, are available in all sizes, carry the OEKO-TEX® certificate and are exclusive Polkom designs. Some of them are laser engraved. If you would first like to know how a horn button is made, see the article what is a horn button.
How to read the colour card
- PHB + four-digit number – the model code (shape, profile, number of holes and rim). For example PHB 1003 or PHB 0047.
- COL + code – the colour code when one model comes in several tones. For example PHB 0047 COL 0019.
- BLACK, Y1, Y2, Y3 – the colour codes printed on the card under each button.
- All sizes – the model is produced in all sizes; the size is specified when ordering.
To convert lignes (L) to millimetres, use the table in the article horn button sizes.
Colour cards of real horn buttons
Dark and black models
Dark horn buttons are the most sought-after for coats, jackets and suits. The card below shows models PHB 1001, PHB 1005, PHB 1008 and PHB 1012 – with different profiles and rims, from clean designs to models with a decorative detail in the centre.

The next card shows models PHB 1002, PHB 1003 and PHB 1004 with the code BLACK, as well as PHB 1006 in colour Y1 – a lighter horn with natural dark spots.

Brown, honey and light tones
Models PHB 1007 (COL Y2) and PHB 1009 (COL Y3) show the light and honey tones of horn, while PHB 1015, PHB 1016 and PHB 1017 combine a light centre with a dark rim or vice versa. Models PHB 1010, PHB 1011, PHB 1013 and PHB 1014 have a rim and a raised edge – ideal for coats and jackets in a classic style.

One model in different colours
Model PHB 0047 is available in sizes 24L–32L and in six colours: COL 0013, COL 0016, COL 0018, COL 0019, COL 0021 and COL 0022. The dark centre comes in grey, green, purple, burgundy, olive or blue, while the light rim of the horn stays natural. Model PHB 0005 is black horn with colour flashes – COL 0081, COL 0082, COL 0083 and COL 0084, showing orange, purple, green and blue highlights.

Tortoiseshell-effect models
PHB 0027, PHB 0053 and PHB 0054 are horn buttons with contrasting light and dark spots reminiscent of tortoiseshell. The natural pattern makes every button different and looks especially striking on beige, camel and grey coats.

Laser-engraved horn buttons
Models PHB 1035, PHB 1036, PHB 1037 and PHB 1038, as well as PHB 4108, PHB 4109, PHB 4110 and PHB 4111, are laser engraved – lettering around the rim, an ornament or a relief in the centre. Your logo can be engraved in the same way – details are in the article horn buttons with logo and in laser engraving of buttons.

Horn buttons for shirts
Small horn shirt buttons are on a separate card: PHB 0063 and PHB 1009 in colour COL 8204 and PHB 1015 in colour COL 0203. How to choose horn buttons for shirts is explained in the article horn buttons for shirts.

Which garments they suit
Real horn buttons are used on all kinds of clothing: coats, jackets and suits, shirts, trousers and knitwear. For coats, larger sizes and more solid models are chosen – see horn buttons for coats. For jackets and suits, the rules on number and placement from the article horn buttons for suits and jackets apply, and for cardigans and knitwear see horn buttons for knitwear.
Why the colour within a batch is not perfectly uniform
Horn is a natural material and no two buttons are ever exactly alike – spots, veins and colour shifts differ. The card shows the typical look of the model and colour, and when you order we select the buttons so that the batch looks harmonious. If you need exactly the same colour on every button, compare them with imitation horn buttons in the article real horn or imitation.
How to order from the colour card
- Choose the model and colour by the code on the card, for example PHB 0047 COL 0019.
- Specify the size in lignes or millimetres and the number of buttons per garment.
- Tell us whether you need laser engraving or a logo.
- Request a sample to see the button on your fabric.
