Materials, finishes and colours

Metal accessories are most often made of brass, zinc alloy (zamak), steel or aluminium. Brass does not rust and suits garments that are washed often. Zinc alloy allows more complex embossed shapes, which is why it is preferred for buckles, plates and pullers. Plastic versions in polyamide, polyacetal (POM) or polyester are light, moisture-resistant and widely used in sportswear and childrenswear.

Surface finishes include nickel, gold, antique brass, gunmetal, black oxide, matt or gloss lacquer, as well as colour coating matched to a sample. Denim calls for aged effects, while fashion collections favour smooth, mirror-like surfaces.
