Wholesale Embroidery Threads

Polyester, viscose and metallic threads for machine embroidery – rich colours, high sheen and smooth running through the fabric. Supplied wholesale by Polkom.

Embroidery threads – colour and sheen in the detail

Embroidery threads are designed for decorative stitching, where the look of the seam matters as much as its strength. They have a higher sheen, rich colours and a smooth surface that lets them run quickly through the fabric without fraying. They are used for embroidered logos, badges, lettering and decoration on clothing, caps, bags and home textiles. Polkom, a manufacturer and wholesaler of garment accessories, offers embroidery threads wholesale to embroidery shops, fashion brands and promotional companies.

Types of embroidery thread

Polyester embroidery threads

The most used type in industrial embroidery. Polyester is strong, resistant to bleaching and to washing at higher temperatures, and keeps its colour for a long time. It is suitable for workwear, uniforms, sports kits and childrenswear.

Viscose embroidery threads

Viscose (rayon) has a soft, silky sheen and very rich colours. It is preferred for fashion garments and decorative embroidery where a luxurious look is wanted. It is softer but slightly less durable than polyester.

Metallic threads

Gold, silver and coloured metallic threads for accents and festive effects. They require a slower machine speed and a suitable needle to run smoothly.

Special-effect threads

Depending on the project, matt, variegated or glow-in-the-dark threads are also used to give the embroidery a unique character.

Thickness and bobbin thread

The standard thickness for machine embroidery is No. 40 – it gives good coverage and detail. No. 60 is finer and suits small lettering and fine details, while No. 30 or 20 gives a denser, raised coverage. For the underside of the embroidery, a special bobbin thread is used, usually white or black, which is thinner and reduces the bulk of the stitching.

Applications

  • embroidered logos on T-shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts and jackets;
  • caps, backpacks and bags;
  • uniforms, workwear and sports kits;
  • badges and patches;
  • towels, bed linen and decorative textiles.

Colours

Embroidery threads come in a very wide colour palette, including neon and pastel shades. When embroidering corporate logos, we can match the shade to Pantone or to a sample so it matches the brand colour exactly. Embroidery is often combined with woven labels in the same colour range.

Tips for quality embroidery

  • Use a needle suited to embroidery and to the thread thickness.
  • On stretch fabrics, place a stabiliser on the reverse side.
  • Reduce the speed with metallic threads.
  • Store threads away from direct light and dust.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose polyester or viscose embroidery thread?
Polyester thread is stronger and more resistant to bleaching and washing, so it is preferred for workwear, uniforms and childrenswear. Viscose thread has a softer, silky sheen and suits fashion and decorative products. For frequent washing at high temperatures, polyester is the safer choice.
What thread thickness is used for machine embroidery?
No. 40 is most commonly used, as it gives good coverage and detail for most designs. For very small lettering and fine details, the thinner No. 60 is suitable. For denser, raised embroidery, No. 30 can be used. A special thinner bobbin thread is used for the underside.
Can you match the thread colour to our logo?
Yes. Send us the Pantone reference or a physical sample and we will offer the closest shade from the available range. For corporate logos, it is a good idea to compare the sample on real fabric, as thread colour is perceived differently depending on the background and lighting.
