YKK moulded zips – the Vislon line
YKK moulded plastic zips are sold under the name Vislon – one of the Japanese manufacturer's most recognisable lines. The teeth are injection-moulded from plastic directly onto the tape, and their distinctive shape and the YKK marking on the slider can be seen on the jackets and backpacks of many sports and outdoor brands. Polkom supplies original YKK Vislon zips to clothing and equipment manufacturers in Bulgaria and the European Union. We do not manufacture YKK zips – we help with model selection, samples and delivery.
Why outdoor brands prefer Vislon
On products worn in rain, snow and cold, the zip is one of the most heavily stressed parts. A buyer of a technical jacket expects the zip to work with gloves on, not to freeze and not to split under sudden movement. It is precisely in this segment that YKK's reputation is especially strong, and the logo on the slider also serves as a selling point.
- Plastic teeth do not corrode and withstand moisture, salt and low temperatures.
- The chain is lighter than a metal one of the same size.
- The slider runs smoothly even in cold weather.
- The bold teeth are a visible design detail and can be a different colour from the tape.
Applications
YKK Vislon zips are used in ski and snowboard wear, parkas, softshell and hardshell jackets, gilets, workwear and protective clothing, hiking backpacks, holdalls, sports equipment cases and children's outerwear. Smaller chain sizes suit lighter sweatshirts, while larger ones suit heavy jackets and luggage.
How to choose a YKK moulded zip
- Size – most often No. 5 for sweatshirts and light jackets, No. 8 and No. 10 for heavy outerwear and backpacks.
- Type – open-end for jackets, closed-end for pockets and bags, two-way for long jackets and parkas.
- Tape and tooth colour – by number from the YKK colour card; teeth can be tone-on-tone or contrasting.
- Slider and puller – metal, plastic or with a textile/rubberised pull that is easy to grip with gloves.
- Length – according to the pattern and the style's size range.
Planning and lead times
Outdoor and winter collections are developed long before the season, and YKK Vislon zips in a specific colour and length are often made to order. Lead times are on request and depend on the specification and quantity, so we recommend including the zip in the tech pack and contacting us as early as the sampling stage. That way you will have time to approve the colour and function before production.
YKK Vislon or a standard moulded zip?
When the zip brand is not a requirement and function is what matters most, Polkom also offers its own moulded plastic zips with large stock and custom logo sliders. If your buyers expect YKK or your brand standard requires it, we will help you choose the right model. All lines are in the YKK zips category.
How to order
Send us an enquiry with the size, type, lengths, colour number, slider type and approximate quantity. We will confirm the options, suggest a sample if needed and send you a quote. Lead times for YKK zips are on request, and minimum quantities depend on the article – send an enquiry and you will receive a specific quote.
