Wholesale Moulded Plastic Zips

Moulded plastic zips with POM teeth, direct from the manufacturer, for jackets, sportswear, workwear, backpacks and luggage – moisture- and cold-resistant, colour-matched, with logo sliders.

What are moulded plastic zips?

Moulded plastic zips, also known as plastic zips or injection-moulded zippers, combine the strength of a metal zip with the lightness of plastic. Each tooth is moulded individually straight onto the edge of the tape, most often from polyacetal (POM) – an engineering polymer with high hardness and low friction. The result is a chunky, clearly visible chain that does not rust, is unaffected by salt water and keeps its shape in the cold. Polkom supplies moulded zips wholesale to clothing manufacturers, brands and factories across Europe.

Advantages of moulded plastic zips

  • Moisture and corrosion resistance – suitable for garments worn outdoors, in rain, snow or by the sea.
  • High strength – the individual teeth withstand strong lateral loads, which matters for jackets, backpacks and luggage.
  • Light weight – considerably lighter than metal zips of the same size.
  • Smooth running – the slider moves easily even at low temperatures and with gloves on.
  • Decorative effect – the bold teeth are a visible design element.

Applications

Moulded zips are standard in sports and ski jackets, parkas, gilets, sweatshirts, workwear and protective clothing, hiking backpacks, holdalls, tents and equipment cases. They are also used in children's jackets, where a strong yet light zip with no metal parts is wanted.

Sizes and types

The zip number roughly corresponds to the width of the closed chain in millimetres. For moulded zips the most common sizes are No. 3 and No. 5 for sweatshirts and light jackets, and No. 8 and No. 10 for heavy outerwear, outdoor gear and luggage.

  • Open-end (separating) – for jackets, coats and sweatshirts that open fully.
  • Closed-end – for pockets, bags and accessories.
  • Two-way – with two sliders; for long jackets, parkas and skiwear that also need to open from the bottom.
  • Heavy-duty – with chunkier teeth and tape for backpacks, luggage and technical products.

Colours and personalisation

The teeth of a moulded zip can match the tape or come in a contrasting colour, including neon, pastel and Pantone shades. This flexibility makes them a favourite detail in sports collections. Sliders come with metal, plastic or rubberised pullers, and for brands we produce pullers and sliders with a logo and in brand colours. Pair the zip with accessories such as cord stoppers and cords in the same colour for a cohesive look.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What material are the teeth of moulded plastic zips made of?
The teeth of moulded zips are most often made of polyacetal (POM) – a hard engineering polymer with low friction and good wear resistance. It does not rust, does not absorb moisture and keeps its properties at low temperatures, which is why moulded zips suit jackets, skiwear and outdoor gear.
What size moulded zip is right for a winter jacket?
Most winter jackets use an open-end moulded zip in No. 5 or No. 8, while very heavy parkas and work jackets use No. 8 or No. 10. Long jackets often get a two-way zip so the lower part can be opened when sitting down. Send us a description of the style and we will recommend a specific option.
Can the teeth be a different colour from the tape?
Yes. With moulded zips the teeth are moulded separately, so they can match the tape or contrast with it – for example a black tape with neon teeth. We match colours to a sample or Pantone reference, and before the production order we make a sample for your approval.
