YKK Nylon Coil Zips

Original YKK nylon coil zips for volume production of clothing, bags and home textiles – supplied by Polkom, a garment accessories manufacturer, with consistent quality and YKK card colours.

YKK coil zips for volume production

YKK coil zips are the workhorse of the brand – invisible to the shopper, but critically important to the manufacturer. In a run of thousands of garments, any unevenness in the coil or variation in the slider means a stopped line, rework or returned goods. The original YKK coil zip is valued precisely for its consistency: size, tape, slider and colour follow a standardised specification. Polkom supplies original YKK coil zips to garment factories, brands and ateliers in Bulgaria and the EU; we are not a manufacturer of YKK zips.

How the YKK coil zip is built

The chain is a continuous spiral of nylon or polyester monofilament stitched to the textile tape. YKK uses the term coil for this group. The construction is light, flexible and quiet in use, bends around curved openings and does not weigh down thin fabrics. YKK coil zips are also the basis of the Conceal line of invisible zips, but in the classic version the coil remains visible on the face side.

Typical applications

  • trousers, skirts and dresses in volume production;
  • sweatshirts, light jackets and sportswear;
  • bags, backpacks, toiletry bags and cases;
  • childrenswear, where a light, flexible zip is needed;
  • home textiles – cushion covers, throws and mattresses.

What to include in the specification

To receive an accurate quote for YKK coil zips, prepare the following details:

  • coil size – No. 3 and No. 5 are the most common, with No. 8 and No. 10 for heavy products;
  • type – closed-end, open-end or two-way;
  • finished zip length;
  • tape colour number from the YKK colour card;
  • slider type – auto-lock, non-locking, double-sided or with a decorative puller;
  • approximate quantity and planned production date.

The same colour in every order

YKK's big advantage with coil zips is its colour system. When you specify a number from the card, the next order for the same model will be in the same shade, even months later. For brands with recurring core styles, this saves time on colour approval every new season. If you do not have a card, send us a fabric swatch and we will select the closest standard colour.

Lead times and availability

Standard sizes and popular colours are sometimes in stock, but YKK coil zips in a specific length and colour are usually made to order. Lead times are on request and depend on the specification and quantity. We recommend including the zip in your collection plan as early as the sample development stage.

YKK or a standard coil zip?

For products where the zip brand is not a requirement, Polkom also offers its own range of nylon coil zips with large stock and the option of logo sliders. When your customer or your own standard requires YKK, we will help you choose the right model. All lines are in the YKK zips category.

How to order

Send an enquiry with the specification above. We will confirm availability, suggest a sample and send you a quote with a lead time. Lead times for YKK zips are on request, and minimum quantities depend on the article – send an enquiry and you will receive a specific quote.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are YKK coil zips suitable for volume production?
Yes, volume production is exactly where their advantages show most clearly. Each model's specification is standardised, so size, tape, slider and colour are identical across the whole batch and in repeat orders. This reduces defects on the line and makes planning easier for styles that recur from season to season.
Can I reorder a YKK coil zip in the same colour a few months later?
Yes. YKK uses a standardised colour system, so when a colour number from the card is specified, the next order for the same model will be in the same shade. Record the colour number and model in the garment's tech pack and simply send them to us when you reorder.
What size YKK coil zip is used for trousers?
Most trousers and skirts use a closed-end YKK coil zip in No. 3 or No. 5 with an auto-lock slider that stops the zip from opening during wear. No. 5 is preferred for heavier fabrics. Send us a description of the style and fabric and we will recommend a specific option.
