Wholesale Wire Hooks and Eyes

Wire hooks and eyes – fine bent-wire fasteners for dresses, blouses, skirts and lingerie, direct from the manufacturer. Silver, gold and black, in sizes from 0.6 to 2 mm.

What are wire hooks and eyes?

Wire hooks and eyes are small fasteners made of bent metal wire. Each set consists of two parts – a hook and an eye – sewn on the inside of the garment opposite each other. When the hook catches the eye, the two edges of the fabric are drawn together closely, while the fastening stays almost invisible from the outside. That is why wire hooks and eyes are a classic solution for women's dresses, blouses, skirts, lingerie and couture – wherever a secure yet discreet fastener is needed. Polkom, a manufacturer and wholesaler of garment accessories, offers wire hooks and eyes wholesale to garment factories, fashion brands and ateliers.

Where wire hooks and eyes are used

  • The top of an invisible zip on dresses and skirts – the hook takes the strain and stops the zip from opening.
  • Necklines, neck openings and backs of dresses and blouses.
  • Bras, corsets, bodysuits and other lingerie.
  • Waistbands of skirts and women's trousers in fine fabrics.
  • Evening, bridal and stage wear, where the fastening must not disturb the line of the design.
  • Childrenswear and fine accessories in delicate textiles.

Thanks to their small size and low weight, wire hooks do not weigh the garment down and do not show through thin fabrics such as silk, chiffon, satin and tricot.

Types, sizes and colours

Types of eyes

The hook is usually the same; the difference is in the eye. A straight eye (bar type) is used when the fabric edges overlap, for example on a skirt waistband. A round eye suits cases where the two edges must meet exactly in one line, as on a neckline or the back of a dress. The choice depends on the garment's construction, so if in doubt, send us a sketch or a sample.

Sizes

We stock wire hooks and eyes in sizes from 0.6 to 2 mm. The finest are used for lingerie, blouses and light fabrics, while the larger ones suit denser fabrics and areas under greater strain, such as a skirt waistband. The right size depends on the fabric thickness and how much tension the fastener has to take.

Colours

  • Silver – versatile, suitable for light and pastel fabrics.
  • Gold – for warm tones and products where the fastener may remain visible.
  • Black – almost invisible on dark fabrics, which makes it the most popular choice for formalwear.

The most popular models in all three colours are permanently in stock, allowing fast order assembly.

Advantages of wire hooks and eyes

  • Discreet fastening that stays hidden beneath the fabric.
  • Light and fine – suitable for delicate fabrics and lingerie.
  • Easy to sew on with needle and thread, with no press or special tools.
  • Withstand repeated fastening and unfastening.
  • Consistent shape for every hook, which matters in volume sewing.

How they are sewn on

The hook and the eye have small loops at the base through which the thread passes. The hook is placed on the inside of the upper edge so it is not visible from the outside, and the eye on the opposite side, directly facing it. It is good to reinforce the area with interfacing or a double layer of fabric, especially on thin fabrics. Use thread in the colour of the fabric or the hook so the stitching stays invisible.

Related fasteners

For trouser and skirt waistbands in dense fabrics, where the load is greater, flat trouser hooks and bars are more suitable. If you are looking for a small concealed snap fastener, see our sew-on snap fasteners, and for visible fastening that matches the fabric, fabric-covered buttons. This way you can source all the fasteners for a collection from one supplier.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between wire hooks and eyes and trouser hooks and bars?
Wire hooks and eyes are fine bent-wire hooks and loops that are sewn on and intended for light fabrics – dresses, blouses, lingerie and the top of an invisible zip. Trouser hooks and bars are sturdier, usually flat, and are used on trouser and skirt waistbands in dense fabrics, where the fastener carries a greater load.
What size of wire hook and eye should I choose?
We offer sizes from 0.6 to 2 mm. The finest sizes are chosen for lingerie, silk, chiffon and thin blouses, and the larger ones for denser fabrics and areas under more tension, such as a skirt waistband. If you are not sure, send us a fabric sample or a description of the garment and we will recommend a suitable model.
Do I need a machine to attach wire hooks and eyes?
No. Wire hooks and eyes are sewn on with needle and thread through the small loops at the base of the hook and eye. No press or die is needed, so they suit volume sewing in a factory as well as ateliers and handwork. On thin fabrics we recommend reinforcing the area with interfacing.
What colours do wire hooks and eyes come in?
We keep the most popular models in stock in three colours – silver, gold and black. Black is almost invisible on dark fabrics and is preferred for formal dresses and skirts, while silver and gold suit light and pastel fabrics. For other requirements, send an enquiry.
