Wholesale Sew-On Snap Fasteners

Metal and plastic sew-on snap fasteners attached with needle and thread – for baby and childrenswear, lingerie, dresses and concealed fastening, direct from the manufacturer.

What are sew-on snap fasteners?

Sew-on snap fasteners (also called sew-on press studs) are small two-part snap closures – a male part with a raised stud and a female part with a socket. Each part has holes around the edge and is sewn to the fabric with needle and thread, just like an ordinary button. Unlike snap buttons fitted with a press and die, sew-on snaps need no special equipment and do not pierce the fabric. That is why they are preferred by garment factories, ateliers and brands working with thin, stretch or delicate fabrics.

Polkom, a manufacturer and wholesaler of garment accessories, offers sew-on snap fasteners wholesale in standard sizes and colours, as well as custom versions on request.

Advantages

  • Attached without tools – just needle and thread.
  • They do not pierce or weaken the fabric, so they suit jersey and fine fabrics.
  • Easy to fasten and withstand repeated opening.
  • Stay hidden beneath the face of the garment.
  • Can be replaced or moved without leaving marks.

Materials and sizes

Metal sew-on snaps

Metal versions are most often made of brass with a nickel, black or gold finish. They are thinner and strong, so they are used in coats, jackets and products where the fastener carries a greater load.

Plastic sew-on snaps

Plastic models are light, do not rust and come in white, black and clear. The clear version stays almost invisible on any fabric colour and is handy when you do not want to match the snap to each collection.

Sizes

Available sizes range from small models for lingerie and babywear, to medium ones for dresses and blouses, and larger ones for outerwear. When choosing, consider the fabric thickness and how firmly the fastening needs to hold.

Where they are used

  • Baby bodysuits and childrenswear
  • Lingerie and nightwear
  • Dresses, blouses and shirts with a concealed placket
  • Coats and jackets – as an additional inner fastening
  • Sportswear, costumes and stagewear
  • Covers, cushions and home textiles

Sewing tips

The male part is usually sewn to the upper layer (on the inside) and the female part to the lower layer, directly opposite. To stop the fastening pulling out, pass the thread through each hole several times and use fusible interfacing on thin and stretch fabrics. In volume production it helps to mark the positions with a template so both parts line up exactly on every garment.

Colours and custom versions

From stock we offer the most popular colours – black, white, nickel and gold. For larger runs we can also offer other finishes or a colour matched to the fabric. If you are looking for a visible, decorative fastener, see our metal buttons. For fine concealed fastening on dresses, blouses and lingerie, wire hooks and eyes are suitable, and for trouser and skirt waistbands, trouser hooks and bars.

Ordering and samples

Polkom keeps large stock, prepares samples quickly and delivers across the EU. Sew-on snaps are often ordered together with threads in the same shade so the stitching is invisible. Send an enquiry with the size, colour, material and approximate quantity. Minimum quantities depend on the article – send an enquiry via the contact page or at info@polkom.com.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between sew-on and press-on snap fasteners?
Press-on snap buttons are fitted with a machine and die, with parts of the snap passing through the fabric. Sew-on snaps are attached with thread through holes around the edge and do not pierce the fabric. They are better suited to thin, stretch and delicate fabrics, and to ateliers without press equipment.
Should I choose metal or plastic sew-on snaps?
Metal snaps are stronger and thinner, suitable for coats, jackets and areas under greater load. Plastic ones are lighter, do not rust and come in clear, white and black, so they are widely used in baby and childrenswear, lingerie and dresses. The choice depends on the fabric and the load.
Do sew-on snap fasteners withstand washing?
Yes. Plastic models do not rust, and metal ones with a brass base and quality finish keep their appearance through regular washing. To extend the life of the fastening, sew the snap firmly through all holes and, if needed, reinforce the fabric on the inside with interfacing. This spreads the load more evenly and stops the fabric around the snap from tearing.
Can I order sew-on snaps in the colour of my fabric?
From stock we offer black, white, nickel, gold and clear versions. For larger runs we can discuss a finish or colour matched to a sample. Send us a fabric sample and an approximate quantity so we can check the options for the specific model and prepare a sample.
