Wholesale clothing buttons for every collection

Buttons are a small detail that decides a lot: how a jacket lapel sits, whether a shirt looks expensive and how many years a coat will last. Polkom is a Bulgarian manufacturer and wholesaler based in Sofia, with more than two decades of experience in garment trims. We work with fashion brands, garment factories, ateliers and distributors across Europe, offering both stock models for fast fulfilment and buttons made to your own design and logo.

Our catalogue covers more than 10,000 items, from affordable, practical buttons for mass production to natural materials for premium clothing. Below you will find a short overview of every type of button we manufacture and supply wholesale, together with useful information on sizes, finishes and the ordering process.

Types of buttons by material and use

The right material depends on the type of garment, the collection budget and how the item will be washed and cared for. These are the main groups in our range:

Synthetic and metal buttons

  • Polyester buttons: the most versatile choice. Light, strong and available in any colour or effect, they suit almost every garment.
  • Metal buttons: brass and zinc alloy, with finishes such as antique, nickel or gold; for jackets, denim, blazers and uniforms.
  • Imitation horn buttons: polyester with characteristic veining that recreates the look of natural horn at a more affordable price.
  • Urea buttons: a hard thermoset resin that withstands high temperatures during ironing and dry cleaning.
  • Snap buttons: four-part metal press studs attached with a press; for jackets, childrenswear, workwear and bags.

Natural material buttons

  • Corozo buttons: made from the nut of the tagua palm, known as "vegetable ivory"; natural and easy to dye and engrave.
  • Mother-of-pearl buttons: cut from the nacre layer of shells, with a natural lustre for shirts, blouses and fine clothing.
  • Horn buttons: made from buffalo horn, each with a unique pattern; a classic for suits, coats and knitwear.
  • Bone buttons: a natural material with a warm, slightly matte look for classic and vintage collections.
  • Coconut buttons: made from coconut shell, with a lively texture for summer, linen and beachwear styles.
  • Wooden buttons: a warm, natural accent for knitwear, childrenswear and eco-minded brands.

Buttons by style and decoration

  • Men's buttons: selected models for shirts, suits, jackets, trousers and outerwear.
  • Fabric-covered buttons: covered in fabric or leather, often in the same material as the garment, for a perfect match.
  • Engraved buttons: with a logo, lettering or ornament applied by laser or by a relief die.

Button sizes: how they are measured

In the garment industry, button diameter is given in lignes (L). One ligne is 0.635 mm, so 40L is about 25 mm. Typical sizes by garment type:

  • 14L–18L (about 9–11.5 mm): shirts, blouses, cuffs and collars;
  • 20L–24L (about 12.5–15 mm): skirts, trousers, waistcoats and jacket sleeves;
  • 28L–32L (about 18–20 mm): jacket fronts, outerwear and suits;
  • 36L–44L (about 23–28 mm): coats, parkas and heavy outerwear;
  • above 44L: decorative and statement buttons.

If you are not sure which size is right, see our quantities and sizes page or send us a fabric swatch.

Colours, finishes and logo buttons

Most models can be produced in a colour matched to your sample or a catalogue colour code, with a matte, gloss or satin finish. Metal buttons are available with electroplated finishes and enamel, while natural materials come natural, dyed or polished. Your brand logo can be laser engraved, embossed or moulded directly into the button. That way buttons become part of your brand identity rather than just a fastening.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which type of button is best for mass garment production?
For most ready-to-wear items, polyester buttons are the most practical choice. They are light, strong, withstand repeated washing and can be dyed almost any colour. Metal or snap buttons are preferred for jackets and denim, while corozo, mother-of-pearl or horn suit premium clothing. If you are unsure, describe the garment and we will recommend a suitable model.
Can you make buttons with our brand logo?
Yes. We make custom buttons with a logo applied by laser engraving, embossing or directly in the mould during casting. The method depends on the material and size of the button. Send us your logo in vector format and the model you want, and we will prepare a sample for approval before mass production.
What is the minimum order quantity for wholesale buttons?
Minimum quantities depend on the item. They are usually lower for stock models, while for custom production in your colour or with your logo the quantity is determined by the production technology. Send an enquiry with the model, size and number required and you will receive a specific proposal.
Do you deliver buttons outside Bulgaria?
Yes, we deliver buttons and other garment trims to customers across the European Union. We work with brands, garment factories, ateliers and distributors in many countries. Delivery terms and method are agreed when the order is confirmed, based on the quantity and the recipient's address.
