Men's Buttons for Shirts, Jackets and Coats

Men's buttons for shirts, suits, coats and jeans in corozo, horn, polyester, urea and metal. Wholesale, in standard sizes and with your logo.

Men's buttons: the detail that finishes the garment

In menswear, buttons are one of the few decorative elements, so choosing them matters. Men's buttons have to stand up to daily wear and frequent washing while also enhancing the cut and the fabric. Polkom offers wholesale men's buttons for manufacturers of shirts, suits, outerwear and denim, as well as custom production in a colour matched to your sample and with your brand logo.

Men's buttons by garment type

Button size is given in lignes (L), where 1L = 0.635 mm. As a guide:

Shirts

The standard is 14L–18L (about 9–11.5 mm) for the front and cuffs, with smaller buttons for button-down collars. They usually have four holes, are flat or have a slight rim, and are made of polyester, urea, mother-of-pearl or corozo.

Jackets and suits

Jacket fronts usually use 30L–32L (about 19–20 mm), and sleeves 24L (about 15 mm). A classic jacket has three or four buttons per sleeve. Typical materials are corozo, horn and imitation horn, in a matte or semi-matte finish.

Coats and outerwear

Larger, heavier buttons are preferred here: 36L–44L (about 23–28 mm) and above, with two or four holes or a shank, sometimes combined with an inner button for double-breasted styles.

Jeans and workwear

Denim uses metal buttons attached with a riveted tack, while workwear needs strong, heat-resistant models. See our metal buttons and urea buttons.

Materials for men's buttons

  • corozo: a natural material from the tagua palm nut, a classic for suits and shirts;
  • horn: natural patterning and a refined look for jackets and coats;
  • imitation horn: a similar look at a more affordable price, with consistent batches;
  • polyester: a wide range of colours and effects for everyday clothing;
  • urea: hardness and heat resistance for shirts and uniforms;
  • metal: for jeans, jackets and sports jackets with a blazer look.

Colours and style

Menswear is dominated by muted tones: navy, black, brown, grey, beige and the natural colours of horn and corozo. A good rule is for the button to match the fabric or be one or two shades darker. Matte surfaces are chosen for a more formal look, while casualwear calls for more pronounced textures or metal details.

Custom men's buttons with your logo

Branded buttons are one of the surest ways to make a brand recognisable. We can engrave a logo or monogram, produce buttons in a colour matched to a fabric swatch and choose a model that suits the cut. You will find more information in engraved buttons. We also offer button attaching as a service.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What size buttons are used on a men's jacket?
Most often the jacket front has 30L–32L buttons (about 19–20 mm) and the sleeves 24L (about 15 mm), with three or four per sleeve. Coats use larger sizes, usually from 36L upwards. The exact size depends on the cut and fabric thickness, so we recommend a sample.
Which material is best for men's shirts?
For everyday shirts, polyester buttons are the most common thanks to their good price and wide choice of colours. For shirts that are often washed at high temperatures, urea is the more resistant option. Premium shirts use mother-of-pearl and corozo, which give a natural, refined look.
Can I order men's buttons with my brand logo?
Yes. We can engrave a logo, monogram or lettering on most materials: corozo, polyester, urea, metal and wood. Send us your logo in vector format and the button model you want. We will suggest a suitable application method and make a sample for approval before production.
Do you offer jeans buttons?
Yes. Jeans and denim jackets use metal buttons with a riveted tack, attached by machine without sewing. We offer various diameters and finishes and the option of a relief logo. Browse our metal buttons section or send us an enquiry with the specifications of your design.
