Printed Clothing Labels

Printed labels on satin, polyester and cotton tape, made by the manufacturer: fine text, more information and a cost-effective price for large runs.

Printed labels: a flexible, economical solution

Printed labels are made by printing your logo and text onto textile tape. Unlike woven labels, where the image is formed by the threads, here the design is applied to a finished base. This allows very fine text, thin lines and more information in a small area, and for large runs printed clothing labels are a cost-effective alternative. They are soft, flat and comfortable to wear, which makes them well suited to the inside of garments.

Polkom manufactures custom printed labels with the customer's logo and data for brand labels, size labels, care instructions and promotional messages.

Materials for printed labels

  • Satin tape: smooth, soft and with a slight sheen. The most popular base.
  • Polyester tape: strong and wash resistant, for mass production.
  • Taffeta (nylon): stiffer and more economical, used mostly for care labels.
  • Cotton tape: a natural matte look, suited to organic and children's collections.
  • Non-woven fabric: a soft, economical option for home textiles.

Printing technologies

Thermal transfer printing

Used for labels with variable data such as sizes, article numbers and barcodes. It allows content to be changed quickly and small runs of each variant.

Flexographic printing

Suited to large runs with the same design. It ensures even, high-contrast printing at a good unit price.

Screen printing

Gives a thick ink layer and rich colours, including on dark tapes. Suited to brand labels with a bold design.

Sizes, colours and finishing

The tape width is chosen according to the amount of text, most often 10 to 40 mm. Tape and print colours are chosen to suit your brand and, if needed, matched to Pantone. Labels are supplied cut, folded as specified, or on a roll. Edges are ultrasonic or heat cut so they do not fray.

Supply on a roll is convenient for workshops with automatic cutting and lets you cut labels exactly to production needs. Cut and folded labels, on the other hand, are ready to sew straight on and save your machinists time.

When to choose a printed label

  • When the design contains small text, gradients or a lot of detail.
  • When the label needs to be especially soft and thin.
  • When you have many variants: sizes, colours or article numbers.
  • When you order large quantities and the unit price is decisive.

For the main brand label, which needs to look as durable and luxurious as possible, see our woven labels. If you need a label with care information, see our care and composition labels.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the print on labels fade in the wash?
With the right material and technology, the print stays legible after repeated washing. We use inks designed for textiles and choose the printing method to suit the item. If the item will be washed at high temperatures or professionally cleaned, mention this in your enquiry so we can offer the most durable option.
Can I order printed labels with different sizes in one order?
Yes. Printed labels are especially well suited to variable data. We can print the same design with different sizes, article numbers or barcodes within one order. Send us a list of the variants and the quantity for each so we can prepare an accurate quote.
Is a printed or a woven label the better choice?
It depends on the purpose. A woven label is more durable and looks more luxurious, so it is preferred for the main brand label. A printed label is softer and thinner, holds more information and is cost-effective for large runs. Many brands combine both types in one garment.
