Care and Composition Labels for Clothing

Care and composition labels with fibre content, care symbols and origin, printed by the manufacturer on satin or taffeta to your data and requirements.

What care and composition labels are

Care labels contain information about the material the garment is made from and how it should be cared for. They are usually sewn into the inside side seam or under the main brand label. Care and composition labels are not just good practice: for textile products sold in the EU, stating the fibre composition is mandatory, and care symbols are the established way for buyers to understand how to wash, iron and dry the item.

Polkom manufactures custom printed care labels with your data and logo. We help you lay out the information correctly and choose a material that is soft and does not irritate the skin.

What a care label contains

  • Fibre composition: in percentages, with the fibre names, for example 95% cotton, 5% elastane.
  • Care symbols: washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional cleaning.
  • Country of origin: for example "Made in Bulgaria".
  • Brand details: name, logo, article number, batch or size.
  • Text in several languages: for sale in different countries.

Fibre names must be in the language of the country where the item is sold. That is why exported products often use multilingual labels or multi-page labels folded and sewn together.

Materials for care labels

Satin

Soft and smooth, with a slight sheen. Suitable for lingerie, childrenswear, blouses and any item where the label touches the skin.

Taffeta (nylon)

A stiffer, more economical material. Used in mass production and for outerwear, where the label is not in direct contact with the skin.

Cotton tape and non-woven fabric

Cotton tape suits organic and eco collections. Non-woven fabric is a soft, inexpensive option for home textiles and bed linen.

Printing, sizes and format

Care labels are printed by thermal transfer or flexographic printing with inks designed for textiles, so the text stays legible after repeated washing. Widths of 20 to 40 mm are most common, and the length depends on the amount of information. Labels are supplied cut and folded, or on a roll for workshops that cut them in-house. Edges are ultrasonic cut so they stay soft.

Together with the brand label

The care label is often sewn in together with the main brand label. It is convenient to order both together so they match in width and colour. Browse our woven labels and printed labels for the main label, as well as the whole labels category.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are care and composition labels mandatory?
For textile products placed on the EU market, stating the fibre composition is mandatory, and it must be durable, legible and in the language of the country where the item is sold. Care symbols are the established practice for care instructions. If in doubt, we recommend checking the requirements for your specific market.
Can I have different compositions on the same label design?
Yes. If you have several models with the same label design but a different composition or size, we can prepare separate variants within one order. Send us a table with the data for each item so we can check the texts before making the sample.
Which material should I choose for childrenswear?
For children's and baby clothing we recommend soft satin with ultrasonic cut edges so it does not irritate the skin. The label should be as small as possible and sewn in a place where it does not press. Another option is printing directly on the inside of the garment, but that requires a separate production solution.
