Textile Labels for Clothing

Soft textile labels for brand, size and information, made by the manufacturer in satin, taffeta and cotton tape with your logo and in your collection colours.

What textile labels are

Textile labels are labels made from woven tape that are sewn onto the garment. They carry the brand name, size, composition or care instructions and are the most common way of marking clothing. Unlike hang tags, textile labels stay on the item for its whole life, so the material, softness and durability of the print or weave matter a great deal.

Polkom manufactures custom textile labels for clothing brands, sewing workshops and ateliers. We prepare logo labels to your design and in your collection colours, advising which material best suits the specific item.

Types of textile labels

Several technologies come under the general name of textile labels. The choice depends on the design, the run size and the impression you want to create.

  • Woven: the logo is woven in with threads on a jacquard loom. The most durable, with a distinct texture. Find out more in woven labels.
  • Printed: printed on satin, polyester or cotton tape. Suitable for fine text and lots of information. See printed labels.
  • Care and composition: contain the fibre composition and care symbols. Browse care labels.
  • Size labels: small labels with a letter or number size, often sewn next to the main label.

Materials and wearer comfort

Because textile labels usually touch the skin, softness is key. Satin is smooth, with a slight sheen and very pleasant to the touch, preferred for lingerie, childrenswear and blouses. Taffeta is stiffer and cheaper, suitable for care labels in mass production. Cotton tape gives a natural, matte look and is used in organic and eco collections. Polyester damask is the base of woven labels and is extremely wash resistant.

Sizes and folds

Textile labels are made in the size you need. Widths between 10 and 50 mm are most common, with the length determined by the design. The label can be straight cut for sewing on all four sides, centre folded for sewing into the seam, or end folded. Edges are heat or ultrasonic cut so they do not fray.

Colours and personalisation

The colour of the tape and of the print or threads is chosen to match your brand palette. We can match colours to Pantone or a fabric sample. Besides the logo, the label can include a web address, slogan, country of origin or article number. If you are planning a whole series of labels, we will help you design them in a consistent style: main label, size label and care label.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which material is softest for textile labels?
Satin is the softest to the touch: smooth, with a slight sheen and no scratchy edges when the edges are properly finished. That is why it is preferred for lingerie, baby and children's clothing and blouses. Cotton tape is also pleasant and gives a natural matte look, suitable for eco collections.
Can I order size labels together with the brand label?
Yes. We can produce a set of main brand label, size labels and care labels in a consistent style and colours. That way the whole collection looks coherent, and you receive all your labels in one order and one delivery, which also makes stock control easier.
Do textile labels withstand washing?
Yes, with the right material and technology. Woven labels practically do not fade. Printed labels use inks designed for textiles, which stay legible after repeated washing. For specific requirements, such as high-temperature washing, we will recommend the most suitable material and technology and make a sample for you to test.
