Woven logo labels are ordered to an individual design: you send the logo, choose the weave, size, colours and fold, approve a sample, and then series weaving begins. The logo is woven in coloured threads, so it stays clear throughout the life of the garment. The key to a good result is a logo adapted for weaving, not just a scaled-down copy of the design from the website.
Why woven logo labels are the first step in branding
For a small or new brand, the label is often the cheapest and most visible branding element. It is on every product, the customer sees it every time they put the garment on, and it makes the product recognisable even out of its packaging. A well-made woven logo label suggests that the brand is "real" and pays attention to detail.
- The logo is part of the weave and does not rub off.
- It looks the same in every subsequent order.
- It can be used on clothing, bags, hats and home textiles.
- It is easily complemented by hang tags and packaging in the same style.
Step 1: prepare the logo
The best input for production is a vector file – AI, EPS, PDF or SVG, with fonts converted to outlines. If you only have a PNG or JPG, send the highest resolution available, but bear in mind that the design will be redrawn.
Simplify if needed
The logo on a website often has shadows, gradients, very thin lines and a small slogan. On a label a few centimetres wide, these elements either disappear or merge. Many brands have a separate "label" version of the logo – cleaner, with thicker lines and no secondary text. If you do not have one, ask the manufacturer to propose an adaptation.
Step 2: choose the weave
| Your logo | Suitable weave |
|---|---|
| Solid, bold shapes, 1–2 colours | taffeta or damask |
| Text and detail, standard size | damask |
| Very fine text, thin outlines | high definition (HD) |
| Luxury look, underwear, childrenswear | satin |
Step 3: logo and base colours
A woven label has a base (background) and design colours. The number of colours is limited by the loom's capabilities, so you need to set priorities: which colours are essential for brand recognition and which can be dropped or merged. Specify the colours in Pantone or send a physical sample – fabric, card, thread. Monitors display colours differently and are not a reliable reference.
Popular solutions for brand labels are a black base with a white or gold logo, a white or cream base with a dark logo, and a base in the brand colour with a contrasting logo.
Step 4: size, cutting and folding
The size is determined by where the label will sit and by the smallest element in the logo. If the logo is wide and the height is small, the text may become illegible – in that case it is better for the label to be slightly taller. Decide on the fold too: centre fold for sewing into the collar, end fold for sewing on two sides, straight cut for sewing around the perimeter, or Manhattan fold for a side seam. Also think about comfort – neck label edges are best ultrasonically cut or with a woven selvedge.
Step 5: sample and approval
The sample is where problems are caught. Check on it:
- Is the smallest text legible at normal distance?
- Do the colours match the brand reference in daylight?
- Is the label soft to the touch, and are the corners free of scratchiness?
- How does it look sewn onto a real garment?
- How does it look after one wash and ironing?
Step 6: series and repeat orders
After approval, the design and settings are archived. Repeat orders for the same label are faster and more predictable because no new preparation is needed. That is why it is a good idea to plan variants with the first order – for example a different base colour for a separate line or a separate label for a children's collection.
What else to weave besides the logo
- Website or Instagram handle – only if space allows a legible size.
- "Made in …" – often added on the brand label or on a separate label.
- Size – more convenient as a separate small label, so you do not need a new label for every size.
- Composition and care – better on a separate care and composition label.
A unified look with the other labels
A woven logo label works best when it is coordinated with the brand's other carriers. Hang tags, pouches and packaging can repeat the same colours and fonts. If you order everything from one manufacturer, it is easier to achieve matching shades. It is a good idea to decide at the woven label design stage which elements are common to all carriers – font, main colours, logo placement – and apply them consistently.
The most common mistakes when ordering with a logo
- The logo is sent only as a low-resolution screenshot.
- The slogan is too small for the chosen weave.
- The colours are specified "as on the website", without Pantone or a sample.
- The sample is approved from a photo only, without being touched and sewn on.
What makes up the price
The price of woven logo labels depends on the weave type, size, number of colours, special yarns, type of cut and fold, additional treatments such as heat-seal backing and, above all, on the quantity. Specific figures are given only after a request for a quote with your parameters.
