Tag seals: a small detail that matters

A tag seal is the fastener that attaches a hang tag to the item. It consists of a string and a plastic lock that closes once and cannot be opened without cutting the string. In this way tag seals do two jobs at once: they protect the tag from being swapped or moved and give the product a finished, premium look. That is why more and more clothing, footwear, bag and accessory brands are replacing ordinary thread or plastic tagging-gun pins with a branded seal.

What a seal consists of

• String: usually polyester, solid or twisted, in a colour of your choice.
• Lock: a plastic mechanism with a pin and socket or a clip that snaps shut and stays closed.
• Logo plate: the visible part of the seal, carrying the brand logo by embossing, debossing or printing.

Types of tag seals

Round seals (button or disc type)

The classic shape – a compact seal with a round plate, suitable for clothing, lingerie and accessories. The logo sits in the centre and is seen immediately.

Rectangular plates

A larger area for a logo, wording or monogram. Suitable for denim, outerwear, bags and shoes, where the tag is more visible.

Metallic-effect seals

Plastic with a silver, gold or gunmetal finish that looks like metal but stays light and does not scratch the item. It matches well with the product's metal trims – buttons, eyelets and rivets.

Clip fasteners

A clip closure in which the string is threaded through the hole of the tag and both ends lock into a single plastic part. It is quick to attach and convenient for larger runs.

Why brands use seals

• Protection against swapping: the tag with the price or article number cannot be removed and moved to another product.
• Returns control: an unbroken seal shows that the item has not been worn, which makes processing returns in online retail easier.
• Premium feel: a branded seal is a detail the customer notices at first contact with the product.
• Recognition: the string colour and plate shape can become part of the brand identity.

Customisation

The colour of the plastic and the string is matched to Pantone or a sample, and the string length to the item and the hanging point. The logo can be raised, debossed or printed, and for more complex designs we will advise which technique gives the most legible result. The seal is best designed together with the hang tag so that both share one look.

Combining with hang tags

How to order

Send us your logo, the preferred seal shape, the colours and string length, plus a photo or the size of the hang tag. You will receive a quote and a sample, and after approval the order goes into production. Minimum quantities depend on the item, so send an enquiry via our contact page.
