Jacquard ribbons: your brand woven into the detail

Jacquard ribbons are narrow woven tapes in which the logo, lettering or pattern is formed by the interlacing of the threads themselves. Because the design is not printed on the surface but woven in, jacquard ribbons do not fade or peel and keep their look through washing and abrasion. They are an elegant way for a brand to be present in the details – in a jacket's hanger loop, the neck tape, a bag handle or a decorative trim.

Woven or printed ribbon

A printed ribbon is better suited to multicolour images and photographic elements, but the print sits on the surface. A jacquard ribbon has a textured, dense structure and a more refined look, and the design is part of the fabric – so it lasts longer on items that are worn and washed often. For branding, trims and hanger loops, jacquard is the preferred choice.

Patterns and design

• Repeating logo: the brand name or mark along the whole length.
• Stripes: narrow or wide stripes in the brand colours, a classic in sportswear.
• Chevron and geometric: zigzag, diamonds and other repeating motifs.
• Ethnic and decorative motifs: for childrenswear, accessories and home textiles.
• Combined designs: a logo between coloured stripes or on a patterned background.

Materials, structure and widths

Jacquard ribbons are most often woven from polyester – strong, with rich colours and a stable shape – or from cotton, which gives a softer feel and a natural look. The structure can be smooth, ribbed like grosgrain ribbon, with a herringbone weave, textured or elastic. The width is chosen according to use – from narrow trims and hanger loops to wider ribbons for handles and straps. The ends are hot-knife or ultrasonically cut so they do not fray.

Where jacquard ribbons are used

• Hanger loops: the loop at the neck of a jacket, coat or towel, with a woven-in logo.
• Neck tape: covers the inside collar seam on T-shirts and sweatshirts.
• Handles and straps: for bags, backpacks, totes and cases.
• Decorative trims: on sleeves, pockets, the side seams of tracksuits and the edges of garments.
• Furniture and home textiles: trims for cushions, curtains, tablecloths and upholstery.
• Packaging: branded ribbon for boxes and gift sets.

Colours and customisation

Thread colours are matched to Pantone or a sample so that the ribbon matches the collection or corporate identity. Ideally, send the logo in vector format – we will check the line thickness and font size so the design is legible at the chosen width.
