Wholesale Cord Stoppers and Cord Locks

Spring-loaded plastic and metal cord stoppers with one or two holes for hoods, jackets, trousers, backpacks and sports gear – direct from the manufacturer.

Cord stoppers – adjustment in one movement

Cord stoppers (cord locks) are small fasteners through which a cord passes and which hold it in the desired position. Pressing the button releases the spring, the cord is pulled or loosened, and when released the stopper grips it again. This way a hood, waist, jacket hem or backpack opening is adjusted quickly without tying a knot. Polkom, a manufacturer and wholesaler of garment accessories, offers wholesale cord stoppers to makers of clothing, sports and outdoor gear, bags and backpacks.

Types of cord stoppers

By number of holes

  • Single-hole – for a single cord, for example at the end of a sleeve or on a backpack's elastic shock cord.
  • Double-hole – both ends of the cord run in parallel; the most common option for hoods and waists.

By material

Plastic cord stoppers in polyacetal (POM) or polyamide are light, resistant to moisture and cold, and do not rattle. They are standard on sportswear, jackets and backpacks. Metal cord stoppers in zinc alloy have a more premium look, allow a logo and various finishes, and are preferred in fashion collections. The spring is usually stainless steel.

By shape

Cylindrical, oval, flat, tapered and decorative cord stoppers are available, as well as models with a cord loop for attaching to the product.

Size and compatibility

The size of a cord stopper is determined by the hole diameter, which must match the cord thickness. Most garment cords use holes of about 3 to 6 mm. If the hole is too wide, the stopper will not hold; if it is too narrow, the cord will move with difficulty. Send us a sample of the cord if you are not sure.

Finishes, colours and logo

Plastic cord stoppers are available in black, white and colours matched to a sample. Metal ones come in nickel, gunmetal, black, gold and matt finishes. On metal models and some plastic ones we can apply a logo by embossing, engraving or printing. Choose the colour to match the cord ends and eyelets on the product so the accessories look like a set.

Fitting and tips

The stopper is fitted by pressing the button and threading the cord through the hole, then finishing the end with a cord end or knot so it does not slip out. In volume production, cord stoppers are fitted before or after the channel is finally closed, depending on the construction. It is worth checking the spring tension with your cord – smoother synthetic cords need a firmer grip than braided cotton ones.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose a single-hole or a double-hole cord stopper?
A double-hole cord stopper is standard on hoods, waists and jacket hems, where both ends of the cord are adjusted together. A single-hole stopper suits a single cord – for example at the end of a sleeve, on a backpack shock cord or on drawstring bags. The choice depends on the product's construction.
What size cord stopper do I need?
The hole diameter should match the cord thickness. For most garment cords, holes of about 3 to 6 mm are suitable, and larger ones for thicker elastic cords on backpacks. Send us a few centimetres of the cord and we will choose the model that holds securely.
Do plastic cord stoppers withstand cold and washing?
Cord stoppers in polyacetal and polyamide are resistant to low temperatures, moisture and washing, which is why they are widely used in outdoor and ski gear. The spring is usually stainless steel. For products washed very often, we recommend testing a sample with your cord.
Can cord stoppers carry a logo?
Yes. Metal cord stoppers allow an embossed or engraved logo, and on some plastic models the logo can be printed or embossed. We need a vector file of the logo, the stopper model and the finish you want. Before production you receive a sample for approval.
