Snap hooks and carabiners – the strong link between strap and product

A snap hook is a small detail that carries the full weight of the bag, the shoulder strap or the lead. It has to open easily with one hand, must not come undone on its own and has to look good for years. Polkom offers wholesale snap hooks and carabiners in zinc alloy to manufacturers of bags, backpacks, leather goods, belts, pet leads and fashion accessories. Die-casting allows precise shapes, a smooth surface and a high-quality electroplated finish, while the swivel joint stops the strap from twisting.

Types of snap hooks and carabiners

Swivel snap hooks – rectangular, triangular, D-shaped, oval or round eye for webbing from 10 to 40 mm; the classic choice for shoulder straps and bag handles.
Bolt snap hooks – closed by a spring-loaded bolt that is pulled back; suitable for leads, key rings and heavy straps.
Flat snap hooks – with a wide, flat body that sits neatly on leather and emphasises the design of the bag.
Lobster clasps and mini snap hooks – for small bags, wallets, key rings and jewellery accessories.
Tactical hooks, S-hooks and screw-lock carabiners – for backpacks, gear, workwear and outdoor products.

How to choose the right snap hook

Start with the width of the strap: the inner size of the eye should equal the width of the webbing or be 1–2 mm larger. For heavy bags and backpacks choose a model with a thicker wall and a higher weight, such as KR-04, KR-15 or KR-23. For handbags, wallets and small accessories the mini models KR-10, KR-13 and KR-16 are a good fit. The flat snap hooks KR-24 and KR-25 are a good choice when the strap has to lie close to the body of the bag.

Finishes and colours

The snap hooks are available in a wide range of electroplated finishes and paints:

nickel, black nickel and matt graphite
gold, matt gold and rose gold
antique brass and antique copper for vintage and leather collections
matt coloured finishes – black, red, navy, sand, olive green and colour matched to your sample

What size snap hook should I choose for a bag shoulder strap?

Go by the width of the webbing or strap. The inner size of the snap hook eye should equal the width of the webbing or be slightly larger. Most handbags use 15 to 25 mm eyes, while backpacks and travel bags use 25 to 40 mm. If you are not sure, send us a sample of the strap.

What material are the snap hooks made of?

The snap hooks in this category are die-cast in zinc alloy, and the springs in the mechanism are steel. Zinc alloy allows a precise shape and a smooth surface on which the electroplated finish sits evenly. This makes the snap hook strong, relatively light and able to keep its look in everyday use.

Can the snap hook match the colour of the other metal accessories?

Yes. The snap hooks are available in nickel, black nickel, gold, antique brass, antique copper and matt coloured finishes. We can match the finish to the buckles, rings, rivets and zip of the product, and for an order we can also supply a colour matched to your sample, so the snap hook is in tune with the collection.
