Logo rivets are made by stamping the brand's mark raised or recessed, engraving it or writing it around the circumference of the cap. The process goes through preparing a vector file, choosing the size and finish, making and approving a sample, and series production. Simplified logos with clear shapes work best, because the surface of the cap is small.
Why logo rivets
A rivet is one of the few metal details that is repeated many times on one product – on the pockets of jeans, on the handles of a bag, on a belt. When each one carries the brand's mark, the product immediately looks finished and recognisable. Branded rivets are used by denim, workwear, bag and leather goods brands, and often as part of a complete set with a waistband button and a metal logo plate.
Techniques for a logo on rivets
Embossed stamping
The logo is raised above the surface of the cap. This is the most classic option – it is clearly visible and pleasant to the touch, and with antique finishes the relief stands out even more because the recesses are darkened.
Debossed stamping
The logo is pressed into the cap. It looks more discreet and elegant and suits minimalist brands.
Laser engraving
Suitable for small runs and fine details, as well as when the logo needs to change without a new die. Engraving creates contrast by removing part of the finish.
Lettering around the circumference
The brand name runs around the edge of the cap, leaving a mark, a star or the pin hole in the centre. A classic solution in denim.
Comparison of techniques
| Technique | Look | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| Embossed stamping | Raised, three-dimensional | Series production, denim, bags |
| Debossed stamping | Pressed in, discreet | Minimalist collections |
| Laser engraving | Contrasting, fine | Small runs, complex details |
| Lettering around the circumference | Text around the edge | Denim with a classic look |
How to prepare the logo
- Vector file. Send the logo in AI, EPS, PDF or SVG with text converted to curves.
- Simplification. Thin lines, small letters and gradients cannot be reproduced on a cap a few millimetres in diameter. Prepare a version with only the main shapes.
- Monochrome. Stamping gives shape, not colour. The logo must work in one colour – through relief and shadow.
- Orientation. State whether the logo must be horizontal when fitted – with lettered caps this also affects attachment.
Size and finish of a logo rivet
The more complex the logo, the larger the cap it needs. A classic jeans rivet of about 8–9 mm has room for a short name around the circumference and a mark in the centre. For bags and workwear, larger caps with more detail are used. The finish is chosen according to the collection – copper and antique copper for classic denim, nickel and gunmetal for black denim, gold and brass for bags. Antique finishing emphasises the relief and is therefore preferred for branded rivets.
Choose metal buttons in the same finish and with the same logo style so that the set is unified.
The ordering process step by step
- Inquiry. You send the logo, the desired size, finish, type of product and approximate quantity.
- Technical proposal. You receive a proposal for the model, cap size, technique and finish, as well as a visualisation.
- Die and sample. After approval, the tool and the first samples are made.
- Test. You test the samples on your fabric and press and wash them according to the product's wash recipe.
- Series production. After written approval of the sample, the run starts.
Logo rivets for different products
In denim, branded rivets usually come as a set with the waistband button and the leather patch, and the logo around the circumference is read at close range. On workwear the rivet logo is often bolder and simplified, because the cap is larger and the product is worn in harsh conditions. On bags and belts double-cap rivets are used, where the logo can be on one or both sides. In children's collections smaller, smooth rivets are preferred, with the logo in shallow relief and no sharp edges. State the type of product in your inquiry so that you receive a suitable proposal.
What affects the price
The price of logo rivets is made up of several factors: the material and mass of the part, the size of the cap, the complexity of the logo and the technique, the type and number of finishes, making the die and the total quantity. With larger runs the tooling cost is spread over more pieces. For specific terms send a request for a quote – minimum quantities depend on the model.
Storage and repeat orders
Once the die has been made, repeat orders of the same model are faster and more predictable. Keep the approved sample as a master for tone and relief and use it when accepting subsequent batches. If you plan a change to the logo or finish, discuss it in advance – sometimes the tool can be corrected instead of making a new one.
Common mistakes when ordering logo rivets
- a logo with too many details for the small cap;
- approval from a visualisation only, without a physical sample;
- no test with the denim wash – the finish changes;
- a different tone from the button and zip ordered from another supplier;
- an unsuitable pin for the thickness of the fabric.
