Logo elastic is a woven jacquard elastic in which the brand's lettering or mark is woven into the very structure of the tape rather than printed on top. That is why the logo does not rub off or crack with washing and stretching. It is used mostly for visible waistbands on underwear, boxers, leggings, sportswear and pyjamas.
What jacquard logo elastic is
Jacquard elastic is woven on narrow-fabric looms with a jacquard mechanism that controls each yarn individually. This makes it possible to depict a repeating text, a logo, a geometric figure or a combination of these along the length of the tape. The colours come from differently dyed yarns, not from ink on the surface.
The base is usually polyester or polyamide, and the stretch comes from woven-in elastane or rubber threads. For underwear and sportswear elastane is preferred, because it is lighter and more resistant to frequent washing.
Why brands choose logo elastic
- Visible branding – the waistband is one of the few places that shows even under another garment.
- Durability – a woven logo lasts as long as the elastic itself.
- Comfort – there is no print that might be stiff or irritate the skin.
- Recognition – a uniform look across the whole collection: underwear, leggings, shorts, pyjamas.
- Premium feel – jacquard is perceived as a sign of higher quality compared with print.
Jacquard or printed logo elastic
| Criterion | Jacquard (woven) | Printed |
|---|---|---|
| How the logo is made | Woven in with coloured yarns | Printed onto the tape |
| Wash durability | Very high | Depends on the ink, can fade |
| Detail | Limited by the weave density | Finer lines and gradients |
| Feel | Uniform, soft | The print can be stiffer |
| Suitable for | Long runs, underwear, sport | Promotional and short runs |
How to prepare the design
Jacquard weaving has its own limitations. The better the design is prepared, the more legible the logo will look on the finished elastic.
- Vector file – send the logo in AI, PDF or SVG format, not as a photo.
- Simplify the details – thin lines, small serifs and gradients are hard to reproduce. Make the font bolder if it is very thin.
- Limit the colours – two to four colours usually give the cleanest result. Give Pantone codes.
- Think about the repeat – over what length the logo repeats and whether there is a blank space or a figure between repeats.
- Consider the height of the lettering – the letters must leave room for the edges and the stitching zone.
Width of logo elastic
The width determines how large and legible the logo can be. For men's boxers and briefs, tapes between 30 and 40 mm are often used; for women's underwear narrower ones; and for sports leggings and shorts 40 mm and more when the waist is high. When choosing, bear the seam in mind too: if the elastic is attached with a coverstitch machine, part of the width will be covered by the stitching.
Colours and coordination with the collection
The base colour of the tape and the logo colour are chosen by Pantone or from a fabric sample. It is advisable to coordinate the colours of the logo elastic with the brand's other elements too – for example the woven labels at the neck or side seam – so that the collection looks unified. A dark base with a light logo gives the best contrast; tone on tone makes the logo more discreet and elegant.
Where logo elastic is used
- men's boxers and briefs;
- women's underwear, sports bras and leggings;
- sports shorts, tracksuits and gym tops;
- pyjamas and loungewear;
- braces, belts and accessories with elastic straps;
- uniforms and kits for clubs and companies.
For edges and inner areas where the logo does not show, combine the jacquard with a soft knitted elastic.
How logo elastic is sewn
A visible logo elastic requires more care when sewing than a hidden elastic in a channel, because every uneven seam shows.
- Logo direction – agree in advance whether the lettering should read from the outside when the garment is worn, and mark the face side of the roll.
- Centring – on boxers the logo is often centred at the front or back. If the repeat is longer, calculate the elastic length so that the logo falls in the same place in every size.
- Seam – use a coverstitch or flatlock machine with thread in the base colour so that the seam does not cross the lettering.
- Joining – overlap the ends or butt-join them with a tape so that there is no bulk in a visible spot.
Care of products with jacquard elastic
Jacquard elastic tolerates normal home washing, but elastic yarns do not like high temperatures. On the care label, recommend washing at up to 40 °C, no bleaching and no high-heat tumble drying. This way both the logo and the stretch last considerably longer.
Sample before the run
Before logo elastic goes into production, a sample is always approved. Check in it:
- the legibility of the logo from a normal distance;
- how well the colours match the Pantone references and the fabric;
- the stretch – sew the sample into a real product and wear it;
- the behaviour after several washes – colour, shrinkage and recovery of the elastic.
The price and minimum quantity for jacquard elastic depend on the width, number of colours, complexity of the design and the total quantity. That is why the most accurate information comes from a request for a quote.
