Material
The raw material is corozo: tagua palm fruits are gathered once they have fallen from the tree, and the kernels are dried before they are sliced and turned into buttons. Each button has its own fine grain from the natural veining of the kernel, so no two are exactly alike – a sign of a natural material, not a defect. In dark shades the dye penetrates the material deeply, the surface looks more even and the veins are noticeable only up close.
Colour and pairing
A black button is the most versatile choice: it works on black and charcoal suits, wool and cashmere coats, and on white shirts, where it creates a crisp graphic contrast. Tip: for a tone-on-tone effect choose a black button on black or graphite fabric; on a light fabric it works as an accent.
Design and details
The button has no rim – a clean profile that sits unobtrusively on the fabric.
Choosing the size
Outerwear usually takes a 40L (25 mm) button; 32L–36L (20–22 mm) suits lighter jackets, and 44L–48L (28–30 mm) large coats.
Sewing on and buttonholes
With four holes the button is firmly attached – suitable for areas under strain such as the front of a jacket or coat or a trouser waistband; the stitching can be crossed or parallel. For coats and heavy fabrics, leave a 2–3 mm thread shank between the button and the fabric – that way the button fastens easily and the fabric does not pucker. Before cutting the buttonholes, make a test – as a guide: 36L (22 mm) – approx. 24–25 mm; 40L (25 mm) – approx. 27–28 mm; 44L (28 mm) – approx. 30–31 mm.
Frequently asked questions
Are all buttons in a batch identical?
Shape and size are identical, but the vein pattern differs on every button – that is what natural corozo looks like.
Can the button be dyed in a different colour?
Yes – corozo can be dyed to a sample or to Pantone on request, so CRZ 0270 can be made in the shade of your fabric.
