Material
The button is made of lathe-turned polyester resin, which allows precise geometry of the rim, holes and surface. The material withstands washing and ironing without losing its shape, and the smooth surface stays clean even after long wear. The glossy finish reflects light and makes the colour more saturated – ideal for suits, coats and formalwear.
Colour and pairing
A black button is the most versatile choice: it works on black and charcoal suits, wool and cashmere coats, and on white shirts, where it creates a crisp graphic contrast. Tip: for a tone-on-tone effect choose a black button on black or graphite fabric; on a light fabric it works as an accent.
Choosing the size
Which size goes where:
- 24L (15 mm) – jacket sleeves, waistcoats and trouser waistbands
- 36L (22 mm) – blazers, women's jackets and light jackets
- 40L (25 mm) – coats, raincoats and jackets
Sewing on and buttonholes
Four holes spread the load and hold the button more securely; it can be sewn with a cross stitch (X) or two parallel stitches (=). For thick fabrics, wind the thread several times under the button to form a shank – this protects the buttonhole and makes fastening easier. Guide to buttonhole length (diameter plus button thickness): 24L (15 mm) – approx. 17–18 mm; 36L (22 mm) – approx. 24–25 mm; 40L (25 mm) – approx. 27–28 mm. Make a test on the same fabric.
Frequently asked questions
Does the colour change after washing?
Colour and shape are retained through washing and ironing; for a long button life, iron around it rather than directly over it.
How do I convert an L size into millimetres?
To convert a size in lignes (L) into millimetres, multiply it by 0.635 – 40L is about 25 mm. For 1107-4 col KORVITA 8490: 36L corresponds to 22 mm.
