Sewing and Embroidery Threads Wholesale

Sewing, embroidery, technical and functional threads for clothing, denim, footwear, furniture, mattresses and car interiors – wholesale from the manufacturer, with colour cards and samples.

Sewing threads for every production

Sewing threads rarely take centre stage in design, yet they are what hold a product together. The right thread decides whether a seam withstands tension, washing, sunlight and abrasion, whether the machine runs without breaks and whether the colour stays the same after years of use. Polkom supplies sewing and embroidery threads wholesale to sewing factories, clothing brands, manufacturers of denim, footwear, bags, furniture and mattresses, as well as technical producers. We work with the full range – from fine sewing threads for shirts to heavy bonded threads for leather, flame-resistant aramid threads and threads with functional properties.

How to choose the right thread

The choice starts with the material, the load on the seam and the desired look. In practice, four parameters are combined:

  • Raw material – polyester (versatile, strong, does not shrink), polyamide 6.6 (elastic and highly abrasion-resistant), cotton (matt, withstands ironing and dyeing), viscose and acrylic (for embroidery), meta- and para-aramid (for protection against fire and high temperatures).
  • Construction – continuous filament threads, staple fibre (spun) threads, core-spun threads with a core and wrap, textured bulky threads, bonded threads with a coating and braided threads for decorative seams.
  • Thickness – stated in tex or as a ticket number. The range is very wide: from about 7 tex for the finest seams to hundreds of tex for tarpaulins, straps and parachutes.
  • Finish – PFC-free water-repellent, UV-stabilised, flame-retardant, antistatic, antibacterial or a special silicone-free lubrication for the automotive industry and filters.

Main thread groups

Threads for garment making

Sewing threads cover everyday garment sewing: core-spun polyester, spun polyester, textured overlock threads, elastic threads for swimwear and sportswear and prewound bobbins for the bobbin thread. For natural fabrics and garment dyeing there is a separate group of cotton threads.

Embroidery threads

Embroidery threads include lustrous trilobal polyester, viscose, matt polyester with high lightfastness, wool-look acrylic, metallic and multicolour threads.

Denim threads

Denim threads are selected for heavy seams, contrast topstitching, washing and laser finishing of jeans.

Footwear, leather, automotive, mattresses and protective clothing

Bonded polyamide and polyester threads are used for leather and footwear, strong silicone-free threads for car interiors, special needle and bobbin threads for mattresses and quilting, and aramid and cut-resistant threads for protective clothing.

Technical and functional threads

Technical threads are for awnings, sunshades, tents, sails and filters. Functional threads add new properties to the product: colour change with heat, a cooling effect, insect protection, electrical conductivity or invisibility to infrared cameras.

Colour cards, samples and colour matching

Most series are available on colour cards with anywhere from several dozen to nearly 500 shades, and for larger quantities dyeing to a sample is possible. Before you order, we can provide a colour card, a technical data sheet with the thread parameters and a sample for testing on your machines. This way you check the colour on the actual fabric, the thickness and the behaviour of the seam before starting series production.

Certificates and sustainable options

An OEKO-TEX® certificate is available for all Polkom products. In addition to classic threads, we offer 100% recycled polyester options – Polkom holds a GRS certificate, and the recycled items are specified on request. Organic cotton threads are also available for collections built on natural materials.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What do the ticket number and tex mean for threads?
Tex shows the weight in grams of 1,000 metres of thread, so a higher number means a thicker thread. The ticket number works the other way round: the higher it is, the finer the thread. For example, ticket 120 corresponds to roughly 24 tex and suits shirts and dresses, while ticket 30 is about 80 tex and is used for decorative seams and denim.
Should I choose polyester, polyamide or cotton thread?
Polyester is the versatile choice for most garments and textiles – strong, lightfast and practically non-shrinking. Polyamide 6.6 is more elastic and withstands heavy abrasion, so it is preferred for leather, footwear and upholstery. Cotton suits natural fabrics, high-temperature ironing and garments that are dyed after sewing.
Can I get a colour card and a sample before ordering?
Yes. For most series we can send a colour card, a technical data sheet and a thread sample so that you can check the colour on your fabric and the seam behaviour on your machines. Describe the product and machines in your enquiry and we will select suitable items for testing.
Do you offer recycled and eco-friendly threads?
Yes. We offer sewing and embroidery threads made of 100% recycled polyester, as well as organic cotton threads. Polkom holds a GRS certificate, and an OEKO-TEX® certificate is available for all our products. We specify on request which items and thicknesses are available in a recycled version.
