Plastic Buckles for Backpacks, Straps and Gear

Plastic buckles for webbing and straps, direct from the manufacturer – side-release fasteners, adjusters and sliders for backpacks, sports bags, children's products and gear.

Plastic buckles – light, strong and moisture-resistant

Technical plastic buckles are the standard for products that need to be light, rust-free and quick to adjust – backpacks, sports and travel bags, children's belts, collars, gear and workwear. Polkom, a manufacturer of accessories, offers plastic buckles wholesale to manufacturers of bags, sports and outdoor products and clothing brands, in standard colours or in a custom colour and with your logo.

Types of plastic buckles

Side-release buckles

A two-part fastener with side release: the male part slides into the female part and locks with a click, and is released by pressing on both sides. Used on backpacks, sports bags, belts and children's products.

Adjusters

Three-bar sliders for changing the length of the shoulder strap without stitching. Similar metal models are in the metal buckles.

Sliding and locking buckles

Small elements that secure the loose end of the webbing so it does not hang or snag.

Rings and frames

D-shaped and rectangular plastic rings for attaching webbing to the body of the product. Metal versions are in ring buckles.

Materials

Plastic buckles are most often made of polyacetal (POM) or polyamide. These materials combine strength, elasticity and moisture resistance, do not rust and leave no marks on the fabric. They are suitable for products that get wet, are washed often or are used outdoors.

Colour and logo

Standard colours are black, grey and white, and for larger runs the buckle can be coloured to match the webbing. The logo can be embossed on the front. Combine the buckles with cords, cord stoppers and tapes from the same source for a consistent look.

How to choose a plastic buckle

  • Measure the width of the webbing – the buckle must be for the same nominal width.
  • Check the thickness of the webbing: dense webbing requires a taller opening.
  • Choose the material according to the load – heavy backpacks and gear need a more massive buckle.
  • For children's products, choose a fastener that opens easily but does not come undone by itself.
  • Combine the side-release buckle with an adjuster so that the length can be changed.

Plastic buckles are light, do not scratch and make no noise during movement, which is why they are also preferred for sportswear and pet accessories. They keep their shape even at low temperatures, which is important for winter and mountain gear.

Quality and safety

For children's products and gear, the fastener must open easily but must not come undone by itself. That is why we recommend testing a sample with the actual webbing and load. All Polkom products are OEKO-TEX® certified.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What material are plastic buckles made of?
Most often polyacetal (POM) or polyamide. They are strong, slightly elastic, moisture-resistant and do not rust, which makes them suitable for backpacks, sports bags, children's products and gear that get wet or are washed often. The material is chosen according to the load and the environment of use.
Can plastic buckles be in the colour of the webbing?
Yes. Besides the standard colours – black, grey and white – for larger runs we can colour the buckles to match your webbing. Send us a sample or a colour code and we will prepare a sample for approval before series production.
Should I choose plastic or metal buckles for a backpack?
For most backpacks, plastic buckles are the better choice – they are lighter, do not rust and do not scratch. Metal adjusters and rings are chosen for fashion, leather and premium backpacks, where the look and weight of metal are part of the design. The two types can be combined.
