Grosgrain Ribbon Wholesale – How to Order Correctly for Production

Grosgrain ribbon is ordered wholesale to a specification: width in mm, material, density, colour to Pantone or a sample, any logo print and the total quantity in metres. The more accurate the specification, the faster a sample and quote can be prepared and the lower the risk of differences between batches.

Who buys grosgrain ribbon wholesale

  • garment factories and workshops – for bindings, waistbands and loops;
  • clothing and accessory brands – for branded ribbons and details;
  • hat and bag makers;
  • home textile manufacturers – blankets, cushions, baby products;
  • packaging and gift companies;
  • haberdashery retailers.

Colour: from stock or custom dyed

Standard colours (black, white, navy, beige and other basic tones) are usually in stock and delivered faster. When the colour must match the fabric or the corporate standard exactly, the ribbon is dyed to Pantone or to a physical sample. The process then includes a lab dip for approval before the batch is released. Approve the colour in daylight and next to the real fabric – polyester and cotton look different in the same shade.

Samples before the run

A sample is the cheapest insurance against mistakes. Check on it:

  1. the width with a calliper and its consistency along the length;
  2. the density and the behaviour in the binder or under the foot;
  3. the colour next to the main fabric in daylight;
  4. shrinkage and fading after washing at the temperature on the care label;
  5. the print quality, if there is a logo – sharpness and rub resistance.

Packaging and delivery

Wholesale grosgrain ribbon is delivered wound on rolls or spools. For factories with automatic cutting a continuous roll is convenient, and for manual work and retail shorter rolls. When the ribbon is intended for loops, labels or bows, it can be delivered cut to an exact length with sealed ends. Specify your preferences in the inquiry. Polkom delivers throughout the EU.

What determines the price of wholesale grosgrain ribbon

We do not give indicative prices, because they depend on the specific specification. The main factors are:

  • width and density – more material per metre;
  • material – polyester, cotton, viscose or a blend;
  • colour – standard from stock or custom dyed;
  • print – method, number of colours, repeat;
  • quantity – total in metres and split by colour;
  • finishing – cutting, sealing, special packaging.

Minimum quantities depend on the article – send a quote request with your specification.

Checks on receipt

  • compare the colour with the approved sample;
  • measure the width in several places on different rolls;
  • check for stains, pulled threads and uneven edges;
  • with print – check the repeat and legibility along the whole roll;
  • keep a piece from each batch as a reference for the next order.

Planning repeat orders

If the same ribbon is used over several seasons, record the exact specification and the number of the approved colour in the technical sheet. That way a repeat order does not require a new sample, and batches stay within the acceptable shade tolerance. For large collections, order the quantity for the whole style at once so that it comes from one dye lot.

Common mistakes when ordering wholesale

  • A specification of just "grosgrain ribbon, black" – without width, material and density.
  • Approving a colour from a phone photo.
  • Ordering several small batches of one colour – the risk of shade differences increases.
  • Skipping the wash test for ribbon sewn into garments.

Lead time and planning

Delivery times depend on availability – standard stock articles are dispatched faster, while custom dyeing and printing require time for a sample, approval and production. That is why you should plan the ribbon order together with the fabric order, not at the last minute before cutting. If the schedule is tight, mention the deadline in your very first inquiry.

Documentation and labelling

When the ribbon becomes part of a garment, it is included in the composition calculation only if it is a significant part of the product. Under Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011, decorative elements and visible ribbons that do not make up a significant part of the product can be excluded from the percentage content, but it is good to have composition data for each ribbon from the manufacturer. Also ask for information on behaviour in washing and ironing, so that you can determine the correct ISO 3758 care symbols for the product label.

For orders covering several styles, ask for the ribbons to be marked with the reference number or the style they are intended for. This makes things easier for the warehouse and reduces the risk of similar colours being mixed up in the factory.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I order a sample before the large order?
Yes, and we recommend it. A sample lets you check the width, density, colour next to the fabric and behaviour in washing and sewing before the run is released. With a custom colour, the sample includes a lab dip for approval. State in your inquiry what the ribbon will be used for so that we can send the most suitable option.
What is the minimum quantity for grosgrain ribbon?
The minimum quantity depends on the article. Standard widths and colours from stock are usually offered in smaller quantities, while dyeing to Pantone and logo printing require a larger batch, because they involve setting up production. Send an inquiry with width, colour and the total quantity in metres and you will receive a specific quote.
Do you deliver grosgrain ribbon outside Bulgaria?
Yes, Polkom delivers throughout the European Union. The ribbon is shipped on rolls or cut, as agreed. Lead times depend on whether the article is in stock or produced to order with dyeing and printing. State the country and delivery address in your inquiry so that we can include transport in the quote.
