We call sculptural buttons with a crushed and wavy metal effect those metal shank buttons whose surface looks hand-modelled – with waves, folds and irregularities. They give blazers and coats the look of designer jewellery without using a figurative motif. We offer seven such models from 12.5 to 45 mm in nickel colour (nickel free), gold, gunmetal and glossy black.
Sculptural buttons – what sets them apart
A classic metal button is smooth or has a regular engraving. A sculptural button is the opposite: its surface is uneven by design. Crushed metal resembles foil crumpled in the hand; the wavy relief recalls sand after the tide or melted wax. So each button reflects light differently and the garment looks “alive” with every movement.
These buttons follow the trend towards organic shapes and quiet luxury – the decoration comes from the texture, not from a logo or motif. That is why they combine easily with minimalist cuts and simple fabrics.
Buttons with a crushed metal effect
MB-09 Round with crushed metal effect
MB-09 Round with crushed metal effect comes in 20 and 28 mm – 20 mm for blazers, 28 mm for coats. The round shape makes it versatile and easy to fasten, while the crushed surface adds character.
MB-26 Square with crushed metal effect
MB-26 Square with crushed metal effect is a square version in 22 and 34 mm. The square looks more architectural and contemporary; it suits coats with straight shoulders and sharply cut blazers.
Buttons with a wavy relief
MB-05 Round with wavy relief
MB-05 Round with wavy relief has the widest range of sizes – 12.5, 18 and 25 mm. This lets you dress an entire garment with one model: 12.5 mm for shirts, blouses and cufflinks, 18 mm for blazers and waistcoats, 25 mm for coats.
MB-08 Oval with wavy relief
MB-08 Oval with wavy relief in 20 and 25 mm suits women’s blazers, dresses and coats. The oval visually lengthens the line of the front, so it looks good on fitted silhouettes.
MB-30 Rectangular with wavy relief
MB-30 Rectangular with wavy relief in 22 and 28 mm is for women’s blazers, coats and bags. The rectangular shape with waves combines geometry with an organic feel.
Domed and large statement models
MB-28 Domed “pillow”
MB-28 Domed “pillow” in 30 mm is a softly domed button that looks inflated. It works beautifully on coats, women’s blazers and bags, especially in glossy black or gold.
MB-27 Large oval with relief lines
MB-27 Large oval with relief lines in 45 mm is the largest button in this group. It is used singly – on a coat, cape or bag – as the main decorative accent.

How to choose the right sculptural model
- Smooth fabrics (gabardine, crêpe, smooth wool) – choose a stronger texture, such as crushed metal; the contrast will stand out.
- Textured fabrics (bouclé, tweed, chunky knit) – a calmer wavy relief, so the textures do not clash.
- Straight cuts – square and rectangle (MB-26, MB-30).
- Soft, rounded silhouettes – round, oval and “pillow” (MB-05, MB-08, MB-28).
One model in several sizes
Most sculptural models are available in two or three sizes. This is useful when you want a consistent look across the whole garment: the larger size for the front and the smaller one for the sleeves, pocket flaps or cuffs. For example MB-09 in 28 mm on a coat and 20 mm on the sleeves, or MB-26 in 34 and 22 mm.
Sewing and buttonholes for domed buttons
Sculptural models are taller than flat buttons. So the buttonhole length is calculated as the diameter (or the length for ovals and rectangles) plus the height of the button. For the oval and rectangular models, decide in advance whether the button will sit horizontally or vertically – the shank loop must be parallel to the buttonhole so that the button keeps its orientation.
On coats, sew with double polyester thread and a backing button on the inside. Do not wind too long a thread shank – the loop already gives enough height for most fabrics.
Ordering
Choose the colour to match the other metal accessories on the garment: crushed metal in gold is the most jewellery-like, in nickel colour the most modern, while in gunmetal and glossy black the texture is more discreet. The seven models are available in the online button shop with a minimum quantity of 500 pcs per model, size and colour. For the full range, see Metal buttons.
