The CRZ 0041 button is navy and made of natural corozo. Its type – with four holes – determines the sewing method described below, and the 11 available sizes range from 14L (9 mm) to 48L (30 mm). CRZ 0041 spans sizes from 14L (9 mm) (for cuffs and collars) to 48L (30 mm) (for heavy winter coats and statement buttons) – choose each size according to its place on the garment.

Material

Unlike plastic buttons, this one is made from a plant-based raw material – corozo, the kernel of the tagua palm, also called "vegetable ivory". Because the material is plant-based, the vein pattern varies from button to button and gives the garment a lively, understated character. In dark shades the dye penetrates the material deeply, the surface looks more even and the veins are noticeable only up close.

Colour and pairing

A navy button is the natural choice for navy suits, blazers, pea coats and uniforms. Navy is a cool, deep shade that often replaces black in classic tailoring – softer, yet just as formal.

On navy, grey and white garments a navy button is softer than black, yet just as classic. CRZ 0041 on a white shirt or white cardigan gives a sailor look, especially with a red or striped detail. Tip: on navy fabric choose a button in the same or a slightly darker shade; on white and beige fabric navy becomes a clean accent.

The raised rim frames the face, protects the thread in the holes from abrasion and gives the button a classic, finished profile.

Choosing the size

On shirts the size depends on the weight of the fabric: 16L–18L (10–11.5 mm) for poplin and Oxford, 20L (12.5 mm) for flannel. For trousers and skirts, 24L–28L (15–18 mm) is usually used on the waistband and 20L–24L (12.5–15 mm) on the pockets.

Sewing on and buttonholes

Four holes give a choice between cross and parallel stitching – a firmer hold in areas under strain. Before cutting the buttonholes, make a test – as a guide: 14L (9 mm) – approx. 11–12 mm; 24L (15 mm) – approx. 17–18 mm; 28L (18 mm) – approx. 20–21 mm.
