Material

Unlike plastic buttons, this one is made from a plant-based raw material – corozo, the kernel of the tagua palm, also called "vegetable ivory". Each button has its own fine grain from the natural veining of the kernel, so no two are exactly alike – a sign of a natural material, not a defect. In a dark colour corozo looks deep and rich; its natural structure remains barely perceptible.

Colour and pairing

A black button looks neat and formal and is a safe choice for garments that need to combine easily. In the colour palette black is the darkest neutral; it absorbs light and gives the garment a cleaner silhouette.

On leather and faux-leather jackets, as well as on dark knitwear, a black button looks neat and unobtrusive. On shirts, 18L (11.5 mm) is the standard for the placket, 14L–16L (9–10 mm) for button-down collars and cuffs, and 20L (12.5 mm) for heavier flannel and denim shirts. On trousers and skirts 24L–28L (15–18 mm) is the standard for the waistband, with smaller sizes for pockets.

Sewing on and buttonholes

Four holes spread the load and hold the button more securely; it can be sewn with a cross stitch (X) or two parallel stitches (=). The buttonhole length is roughly the button diameter plus its thickness: 14L (9 mm) – approx. 11–12 mm; 24L (15 mm) – approx. 17–18 mm; 32L (20 mm) – approx. 22–23 mm.
