More about MB-13
Polkom has been making buttons for over 30 years, and "Classic blazer" (MB-13) is part of our collection of metal shank buttons. "Classic blazer" (MB-13) is a metal shank button available in 3 sizes – from 15 mm to 20 mm, in four coating colours. MB-13 spans sizes from 15 mm (for sleeves and delicate garments) to 20 mm (for jackets, cardigans and dresses) – choose each size according to its place on the garment.
Design and details
The classic blazer button is the design associated with blazers and uniforms – in three sizes for sleeves and front. The coating is even and hard-wearing, and the relief catches the light and emphasises the shape of the design.
Colour and pairing
Colours of "Classic blazer" (MB-13):
- Nickel – a light silvery metal that looks good on grey, black, navy and white.
- The gold tone looks best on navy, black, burgundy and camel.
- Gun metal – a dark graphite metal, more restrained than nickel; a good choice for grey, black and olive garments and for denim.
- Shiny black – a glossy black coating for black and dark garments and eveningwear.
Shiny black combines the severity of black with the gleam of metal – a good choice for formalwear. Gun metal is a dark, understated metal tone – suitable for menswear, dark denim, grey and olive garments. The colour of a metal button is most convincing when it echoes the other metal accessories on the garment or bag.
Choosing the size
"Classic blazer" is used for blazers and jackets (15 mm – sleeves, 18–20 mm – front), uniforms and waistcoats.
- 15 mm – shirts, blouses, dresses and sleeves
- 18 mm – jackets and cardigans
- 20 mm – jackets, cardigans and dresses
Sewing on and buttonholes
The button has a shank underneath, so the face stays free of holes and stitching; the shank lifts the button above the fabric and leaves room for thick materials. Before cutting the buttonholes, make a test – as a guide: 15 mm – approx. 18–20 mm; 18 mm – approx. 21–23 mm; 20 mm – approx. 23–25 mm.
Frequently asked questions
Is the button suitable for thick fabrics?
The shank lifts the button above the fabric, so it fastens easily even on thick wool cloth or knitwear; it is sewn on through the loop at the back.
What is the difference between the colours of this model?
The shape and relief of "Classic blazer" are the same in every colour; choose the coating – nickel, gold, gun metal or shiny black – to suit the fabric.
How do I choose the colour of MB-13 to suit the fabric?
Take your cue from the other metal accessories on the garment: with a silver-tone zip – nickel, with gold-tone details – gold; gun metal and shiny black are the more discreet options.
