Brand Kit for a Clothing Collection: Logo Labels and Packaging from a Single Source

A brand kit is the set of logo labels and packaging that accompanies every item of the brand: labels inside the garment, a hang tag with a seal tag on the outside and packaging – a bag, tissue paper, a box or a carrier bag. When these elements are designed and ordered together, the colours, logo and materials match, and the collection looks professional from the first glance to the unboxing.

Logo labels and packaging: what a brand kit consists of

The set can be divided into three layers – what stays in the garment for good, what is removed after purchase, and the packaging.

Not every brand needs everything. The basic kit of an online T-shirt brand might consist of a printed neck label, a care and composition label, a hang tag and a bag. A premium knitwear brand will add a woven label, a logo seal tag, tissue paper and a box.

Mandatory and optional

Part of the brand kit is a legal matter and part is marketing. It is worth separating them before planning the budget.

  • Mandatory in the EU: the fibre composition according to Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011, usually on a durable label sewn into the garment. In practice the care symbols and the manufacturer’s or importer’s details, required by other product safety rules, are added to it.
  • Almost mandatory in retail: size and barcode – without them shops and warehouses find it hard to handle the product.
  • Optional, but with a big impact: the main logo label, the hang tag with the brand story, the seal tag and branded packaging.

If the budget is limited, invest first in what the customer sees and touches every time – the neck label and the hang tag. Packaging can start with one well-printed bag and be expanded later with tissue paper and a box.

Why order as a set

  • One colour everywhere. The black of a woven label, of card and of a box comes out differently on different materials. When one manufacturer coordinates them, the differences are caught at the sample stage, not in the shop.
  • One logo, one version. Brands often discover they have three versions of their logo in different files. The kit is a good reason to choose one final version.
  • Compatible sizes. The hang tag fits the box, the box fits the carrier bag, and the bag fits the folded garment.
  • Less coordination. One inquiry, one sampling schedule, one delivery.

How to build the brand kit step by step

  1. Start with the labels in the garment. They are mandatory and are sewn in during production, so they set the schedule. Choose a type in the labels category – woven, printed, leather or silicone.
  2. Design the hang tag and seal tag together. The hole size, the shape of the plate and the colour of the string must match. See the logo seal tags.
  3. Choose the packaging to suit the sales channel. Online – a bag and a box or tissue paper; shop – a carrier bag; gifts – a box.
  4. Match the colours by Pantone for all elements and ask for samples side by side.
  5. Approve the whole kit on a real item – folded, with the labels, in the packaging.

Also keep a “passport” for the kit – one document with the Pantone numbers, the logo files, the sizes and materials of each element. For a repeat order or a change of season it saves time and ensures the new batch will match the old one.

Three sample kits

Online start-up brand

  • Printed neck label with logo and size.
  • Care and composition label with washing instructions.
  • Cardboard hang tag with string.
  • Zip bag with printed logo.

Premium knitwear

  • Woven logo label and a separate size label.
  • Hang tag in heavy card with hot foil printing and a logo seal tag.
  • Tissue paper with a repeat pattern and a sticker.
  • Magnetic cardboard box.

Denim and bags

  • Leather or jacquard label on the waistband, woven label inside.
  • Hang tag with a rectangular seal tag in a metallic colour.
  • Paper carrier bag with twisted handles.

Do not forget the metal accessories

Buttons, eyelets, rivets, sliders and buckles can also carry the brand’s logo. If the kit includes them, the colour of the metallic seal tag can match their finish. You will find more about branding accessories on the branding page, and the full range of packaging in the packaging category.

Common mistakes

  • The packaging is ordered last, when the labels are already finished and their colour can no longer be changed.
  • The hang tag is bigger than the box and gets bent during packing.
  • Each element comes from a different source and in a different shade of the corporate colour.
  • The logo is too fine for a woven label but was designed only once for all materials.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does a clothing brand’s kit include?
It usually includes labels in the garment – a main logo label, a size label and a care and composition label – a hang tag with a seal tag or string, and packaging: a zip bag, tissue paper, a box or a paper carrier bag. The exact contents depend on the product, the price level and the sales channel. Start-up brands often begin with a smaller kit and expand it gradually.
Why should I order labels and packaging from one manufacturer?
Because colours and logos look different on fabric, card, paper and plastic. One manufacturer coordinates the shades by Pantone and shows samples side by side, so differences are corrected before the run. In addition, the sizes of the hang tag, box and carrier bag are designed to fit together, and communication and delivery are simpler.
Which element should I start with when creating a new brand?
Start with the labels in the garment, because they are sewn in during production and set the schedule. The care and composition label is mandatory for sale in the EU. Then design the hang tag and seal tag, and finally the packaging, depending on whether you sell online, in a shop or both.
Can the packaging be the same colour as the labels?
Yes, that is the main idea of a brand kit. Colours are specified by Pantone for all elements and checked on samples. Bear in mind that the same colour looks slightly different on kraft, textile and laminated card, so approve the samples together, under the same light, not separately.
