To order a perfume box with a logo you need four things: the exact dimensions of the bottle with its cap, a decision on the type of box, the logo in a vector file and an idea of the finishes. With these, the manufacturer prepares a dieline (template) of the box, you place the design on it, approve a sample and only then does production begin. Below we describe the whole process and the common mistakes that slow it down.
Perfume box with logo: what to prepare before the inquiry
The more complete the first inquiry, the fewer messages will need to be exchanged. Prepare:
- The bottle or its drawing – height with the cap on, width and depth at the widest point. For a non-standard shape it is best to send a physical sample.
- The type of box – folding or rigid, with a lid, book-style or drawer. If you have not decided, describe how the product will be sold: on a shelf, online or as a gift.
- The insert – board, foam, moulded pulp or a covered insert.
- The logo and design – in vector format (AI, PDF or EPS), with the brand colours in Pantone.
- The finishes – foil, embossing, spot UV varnish, soft-touch lamination.
- The approximate quantity and whether several fragrances will share the same construction.
If you do not yet have a finished design, that is no obstacle – the inquiry can start with the dimensions and the idea, and the artwork can be added later.
Dimensions: internal, not external
The box is sized by its internal dimensions, because these determine whether the bottle fits comfortably. A small clearance is added to the product size and, with an insert, its thickness too. A box that is too tight scratches the cap and makes filling difficult; one that is too wide lets the bottle move around.
The cap decides the height
With perfumes the cap is often wider or taller than the neck of the bottle, and sometimes it is a decorative element in its own right. Always measure with the cap on. If the cap is still being developed, wait for its final shape or at least the confirmed drawing – otherwise you risk changing the box after it has been approved. If you are looking for a custom cap, see the perfume accessories – caps and metal labels that we make in any size and shape.
Folding or rigid box – how the choice changes the order
The type of box determines not only the look but the whole process. A folding carton is cut from a single sheet of board, so the design is placed on one dieline and all finishes are applied to it before folding. A rigid box consists of a board base and a wrapping paper; the design is prepared for the paper and, on some styles, separately for the lid, the base and the sleeve.
- Folding carton – suitable for series products and machine filling, delivered flat and takes up little warehouse space.
- Rigid box – for gift and limited editions; allows textured papers, magnetic closures and a covered insert, but is stored assembled.
If you are not sure, tell us how the perfume will be sold and how much the bottle weighs – we will suggest a construction.
The dieline – the basis of the design
The dieline is the flat drawing of the box with the cutting, folding and gluing lines. The design is placed directly on it so that no text or logo falls on an edge or a flap.
| File element | What to check |
|---|---|
| Cutting and folding lines | In a separate layer and not printed |
| Bleed | The background extends beyond the cutting line, usually by about 3 mm |
| Safe zone | Text and logo are far enough inside the edges and folds |
| Fonts | Converted to curves, with the smallest size checked |
| Layers for finishes | Foil, embossing and UV varnish – each in a separate layer, in one solid colour |
| Colours | Set in Pantone or CMYK according to the print, no RGB |
Also think about the reading direction: with an upright box on a shelf, the front, the top lid and the side panels are visible at the same time, so the logo is often repeated on them.
Space for mandatory text
Cosmetic products, including perfumes, carry information on the packaging such as volume, ingredients, batch and details of the responsible person. The ingredients list for perfumes can be long, so decide which side of the box it will go on before laying out the artwork. This keeps the front clean for the logo and the name of the fragrance.
The sample: three levels of checking
White mock-up
An unprinted box cut to the dieline. You put the bottle inside and check the size, the insert and the closure. This is the cheapest moment to correct the construction.
Colour proof
It shows how the brand colours will look on the chosen board or paper. Dark backgrounds, pastels and metallic boards are particularly sensitive – a screen does not give an accurate impression.
Sample with finishes
If the box has foil, embossing or soft-touch, the final sample shows how they work together. The approved sample becomes the standard against which the production run is compared.
Series production and repeat orders
After approval, the dieline, the cutting die and the foil and embossing dies are kept. This brings two advantages:
- A consistent look between batches – the new order is compared with the approved sample, not with someone’s memory.
- Easier expansion of the line – a new fragrance in the same bottle uses the same construction; only the print or the foil colour changes.
If you are planning several fragrances, design a common system from the start: the same logo position, a shared font and a colour code for each fragrance. This way every subsequent box is quick to prepare and the line looks coherent on the shelf. Minimum quantities and lead times depend on the type of box and the finishes, so we specify them in the quote.
Common mistakes when ordering a perfume box
- The dimensions are taken from the bottle catalogue without the cap.
- The design is prepared before the dieline and then “fitted” with elements cut apart.
- The logo for foil contains lines that are too thin for a clean impression.
- The mandatory text for the cosmetic product has not been planned and does not fit on the back.
- The colour is approved on screen only, without a physical proof.
