Double-sided eyelets look the same on the face and on the reverse, so they are used on items that are also visible from the inside – reversible jackets, scarves, unlined bags, curtains. Eyelets with an inner ring have an additional ring that makes the eyelet stiffer and more stable under heavy load and frequent use – they suit hoods, belts, bags and awnings. Both types are part of the KS standard eyelets series.
Below you will find a table with all the double-sided eyelets and eyelets with an inner ring in the catalogue, a comparison of the types in the same number and advice on when to choose which type.
The types in the KS series
The standard series contains 28 items from 7 to 48 mm. Besides the classic standard eyelet, it includes six special types:
- double-sided – the same look on both sides;
- with inner ring – a stiffer and more stable construction;
- with extended shank – for thicker and multi-layer areas (KS-04, KS-06);
- narrow – a narrower flange relative to the opening (KS-10, KS-15, KS-18);
- domed – with a raised, voluminous flange (KS-16);
- large opening – the maximum opening for a medium diameter (KS-26).
This article focuses on the first two, which raise the most questions.
Double-sided eyelets – table
Dimensions in mm: D – outer diameter, H – shank height, d – inner opening, MT – material thickness.
| Code | No. | D | H | d | MT | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KS-07 | 3 | 11 | 4 | 4.9 | 0.25 | scarves, ponchos, light reversible garments |
| KS-09 | 4 | 13.2 | 3.9 | 5.85 | 0.25 | shirts, blouses, unlined knitwear |
| KS-11 | 5 | 14.8 | 4.57 | 7.8 | 0.25 | reversible jackets, bags, curtains |
Note the height: double-sided eyelets have the lowest shank in the series (3.9–4.57 mm). This means they are suitable for thin and medium-weight materials. For a thick multi-layer edge, choose another type or check with a sample.
When to choose a double-sided eyelet
- The item is worn or used from both sides – reversible jackets and waistcoats.
- The reverse side is visible – scarves, ponchos, unlined bags, curtains.
- You want the same finish and look on the inside, for example eyelets for drawcords on sweatshirts with an unlined hood.
Eyelets with an inner ring – table
| Code | No. | D | H | d | MT | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KS-13 | 5 | 15 | 5.89 | 7.9 | 0.25 | hoods, sweatshirts, workwear |
| KS-14 | 24 | 16 | 5.5 | 9.35 | 0.25 | jackets, belts, bags |
| KS-17 | 24 | 19 | 6.2 | 9.3 | 0.25 | bags, backpacks, wider flange |
| KS-20 | 26 | 24.5 | 6.1 | 11.8 | 0.25 | backpacks, sunshades, awnings |
| KS-22 | 28 | 28 | 6.9 | 15 | 0.28 | curtains, marine covers |
| KS-24 | 30 | 28.61 | 9 | 14.7 | – | thick and multi-layer edges |
| KS-28 | 34 | 48 | 9.72 | 27.7 | 0.25 | heavy curtains, large covers |
When to choose an eyelet with an inner ring
- A cord is constantly pulled through the opening – hoods, drawstring bags, backpacks.
- The item is washed often and the eyelet must keep its shape.
- The eyelet takes weight or tension – curtains, awnings, covers, bag handles.
- The material is soft and does not hold the shape of the opening by itself – knitwear, fleece, felt.
One number, four types: comparison in No. 5
The differences are clearest in No. 5, where there are four types with an almost identical opening:
| Code | Type | D | H | d | MT |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KS-10 | narrow | 13.5 | 5.5 | 8 | 0.25 |
| KS-11 | double-sided | 14.8 | 4.57 | 7.8 | 0.25 |
| KS-12 | standard | 15 | 6.4 | 7.68 | 0.2 |
| KS-13 | with inner ring | 15 | 5.89 | 7.9 | 0.25 |
The opening of all four is between 7.68 and 8 mm, so the same cord passes through them. The difference is in look and behaviour: the narrow one is the most discreet, the double-sided one has the lowest shank and looks the same inside, the standard one has the highest shank and goes through the thickest material, and the one with an inner ring is stiffer and made of thicker material (0.25 versus 0.2 mm for the standard one).
The other special types in brief
With extended shank
KS-04 (No. 2, H 6.1 mm) and KS-06 (No. 3, H 5.89 mm) have a higher shank than standard eyelets of the same number. They are suitable when a small eyelet has to pass through thick denim, leather or a hem with an insert.
Narrow, domed and large opening
The narrow eyelet KS-18 (No. 28) has an opening of 15.45 mm with a D of only 21.75 mm and a high shank of 8.3 mm – a discreet flange for a thick cord. The domed KS-16 (No. 24, D 19 mm) has a raised flange and is an expressive decorative accent. KS-26 (No. 32) gives an opening of 21.25 mm with a D of 31.8 mm – for when a thick rope or a wide cord has to pass through the eyelet.
Setting
Each type requires its own die – the die for a standard No. 5 eyelet does not give a good result with the double-sided one or the one with an inner ring of the same number. With double-sided eyelets, check the reverse side especially carefully after setting, because it is visible. With inner-ring eyelets, adjust the impact force: the stiffer construction needs precise force, otherwise the shank splits or does not roll fully. More tips are in the Setting section.
Finishes and logo
Both types are available in the finishes of our chart – nickel colour, black nickel colour, antique brass, gold, copper and others, all nickel free. On selected sizes of the KS series an embossed logo on the flange is also possible – see the Branding page. Eyelets are usually ordered together with cords and cord ends in the same finish.
